FF ramblings

I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.

3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.

And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

Holy crap. Quick, make him an offer on VP1. :) I might make an offer on Lunar 1 and SO2... Wonder what he'd consider reasonable? $50 for both? That's pretty cheap, really, heh. Try him on VP1; see how much he's willing to let it go for.

This might be interesting to read after every new episode of House. There, a medical professional reviews each episode. I read a few and it's interesting to see how wrong and over dramatized the show is at times.

Heh, neat. Yeah, it's true enough that the show's medical stuff is probably pretty bogus a lot of the time. And the fact that they're constantly doing tests and procedures that cost thousands of dollars just on House's whim...yeah. But then, I never claimed to be watching it for medical accuracy, heh. Much more interested in the characters and the snark. ^^:

Ooh yeah. :) I've been looking forward to this ep, just cuz of the casting spoiler. Didn't know anything else bout the ep until I just went and read the summary, but... yeah. Excited. Aaand, here it comes.

Wanna go see Ironman on Sunday? It's getting excellent reviews, and it just came out tonight... I also want to see Harold & Kumar 2, which... isnt' getting such good reviews. ^^ But I liked the first, and Chris Meloni's in it (small role, I suspect, but at least this time he won't be covered in gross make-up from what I hear ^^;). Anyway, I'm hoping to see both; might wait for the latter til DVD. Cuz Narnia and Indiana Jones are also coming up this month. And I'm vaguely intrigued to know if Speed Racer will be any good.

Anyway, Ironman's on at Metrotown, P&T, and Paramount/Scotiabank Theatre on Burrard. I'm inclined to prefer the two nicer ones, just cuz it'll look better on them and be more pleasant. Maybe I'll see if I can rope Jane into it, too... haven't talked to her in ages. I imagine she'll want to see Narnia, too.

Probably not tomorrow. I just spent the day reformatting my Dad's computer (still not done) and disassembling my Dreamcast. It's gonna take me hours to finish. So I'll probably just want to stay home and relax tomorrow.

So, any thoughts re: tomorrow? Do you want to go still? The afternoon showings of Ironman at Metrotown are 12:15, 12:30, 1:00, 3:15, 3:45, and 4:15. I'm thinking 3:15.... got the dentist at 12:30. If we get there for 3:15, we can see how busy it is and decide if we need to go to the 3:45 or 4:15 instead.

I dunno.. Right now I'd have to say no, next week yes. I didn't eat at all yesterday and I think I've had less than 10 hours of sleep this weekend, so I'm pretty out of it and lethargic. My furnace keeps me up at night. Who knows how I'll feel tomorrow, though. :\

Lol, oh yeah. Heh. Well, we can watch it together at 9. :) Excited!! Then pt1 of the 3-hour Lost finale at 10... (last 2 hours on the 29th).

I've been reading the upfronts as they've come out this week - Fox's today. PB is moving to 9; Terminator will be at 8. The on Tuesday, House is moving to 8 (blah) and the new show Fringe at 9 - J.J. Abrams new show; it's got a supernatural bent to it and looks intriguing... let's just hope it makes more sense than Lost. o.o Unfortunately Dollhouse will be a midseason premiere; starting in January at 8 on Mondays (24 at 9). Waaah, too long to wait! No idea what's happening with Terminator and PB in January; maybe hiatuses until Dollhouse and 24 finish?

Other than that, not much interesting at the upfronts this year. SPN/SV are staying in their current spots on Thursdays. I must say, the description for tonight's SV sounds... intriguing. o.o

And Men in Trees is cancelled - though we already kinda knew that since Dad heard through his industry contacts that they're tearing down/selling off the sets and props. So much for our monthly paycheck from them...

Yeah, I'm coming down Sunday (doctor's appt then hopefully Narnia in the evening... which you're welcome to come to, though I'd recommend reading or watching The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe first. And I feel I should warn you that there are talking CG animals in this. *grin* Try not to let it deter you, though; they're supposed to be mythical creatures in another world, and anyway it's classic fantasy and is worth reading or at least seeing the movies. :) The first movie was decent; not on the level of Lord of the Rings, but decent.

Anyway. Yeah, I can pop over or whatever at some point to pick up the CD if you don't want to come to the movie. Whichever.

Yeah, sure thing. Didn't have a chance today - 4:00 ferry down, straight to doctor's appt, home v. briefly, then straight to Metro for Narnia (7:20 showing; we got there at 6:40 and there was a bit of a lineup but it was okay and we got good seats. Was packed by 7:20 though, of course. decent movie overall. But Iron Man was better. XD XD). I'm heading to Park Royal tomorrow, dunno when, so let me know what works for you.

Yeah, I read that awhile back. Interesting idea, I just hope it's feasible on what will both no doubt be expensive to make shows. But I think it shows a recognition of their part that viewers' habits are starting to change with the advent of TiVo and commercial-skipping and online streaming and such, and with that ad-based TV may start to become obsolete. Question is, what will replace it? Because they need to make money somehow... anyway, I'm intrigued. And admittedly happy that Fringe and Dollhouse will have fewer commercials, cuz damn there are a LOT of them these days. ABC is particularly bad sometimes, I find, esp with Lost. Commercial break every 5-odd minutes or less, it feels like.

Switching gears - how does Sunday sound for Indy 4? 3 or 3:30 downtown? That's when quettalinde is going. And I might ask Ryan, too; he mentioned being interested. You okay with that? I haven't seen her in quite awhile, so I'd like to go then... and Monday doesn't really work for her.
