I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.

3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.

And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

Great.. He's a douche in this movie and is going to run away from the killer before (probably) being slaughtered.

Ugh I can't watch this.

I hate watching TV shows with actors from my favorite TV shows.

Totally ruins character.

lol, really? I mean a bad movie, yeah, but I like seeing my favourite actors in different things... it can be a bit startling at first if I'm really used to an actor as a certain character, but I don't like to typecast actors in my mind. Some actors I really see as a character they played (SMG comes to mind, namely cuz I've never seen her in anything (good) other than Buffy), but if an actor's good enough and I see them in multiple things then I tend to just see them as the actor. Like Chris Meloni is equally Keller and Stabler to me, although I'm much more of an Oz fan than an SVU fan. I just like the actor, period. Anyway... honestly, I don't see how seeing an actor in multiple things ruins their character from one show - after all, they're actors. They're not the character they play, and one kinda needs to separate them in one's mind... so yeah, I've only really seen Jared in SPN, so he's pretty firmly set as Sam to me, but that's why I'd like to see him in other things... I want to see his range.

Though what's funny is how I became familiar with quite a few actors through one thing, but it was a later role that I identify them with. Like, Dominic Monaghan - when I started watching Lost I kept seeing Merry, but now when I see LotR I'm all "hee, Charlie's a hobbit!". It's amusing. And admittedly a bit distracting, but generally I see him as both characters. Then there are actors who I see in everything under the freaking sun, like Daniel Dae Kim (first Crusade, then Angel, now Lost, and he randomly pops up in a bunch of movies), and Adam Baldwin (first Angel, but now I think of him largely as Jayne, and yet now he's on Chuck so I'm getting used to him on that. ^^;; Mostly he's just Adam Baldwin to me, really - seen him in so much. Oh yeah, and The Inside... liked him on that. pity it got cancelled).

...course, it might just be that I watch too much TV. ;) And I def tend to gravitate towards shows with actors I already know and like, because I know that they're good and that I like them (still waiting for Alexis Denisof to star in his own show... goddamn that man is talented, and I miss him. ;_;). And I get ridiculously excited when I recognize someone's name in a show's guest credits (I hit the ceiling the first time I saw Mira Furlan's name in the guest stars for her first ep of Lost).

Another hot and uncomfortable day.. :\

I understand what you're saying, but I dunno; I'm a character guy, I guess. When I follow a show, it's all about the immersion. I liked to get sucked into the world that the show tries to express. Typecasting actors in my mind, and then after a while seeing them in another role, kind of shakes that immersion for me.

I still get startled a little every time I see James Marsters on Smallville. >.>

You'd think the same would apply to movies for me, but it doesn't. I suppose it's because that most movies are one-shots, or easy to become detached from after a while. Meh..

I've never been one to follow actors, though. I get into new shows mainly by whether or not they sound interesting. Then if the show pulls it off, I stick with it; if not, well.. that's it.

It's funny - now that I think about it, I haven't followed too many serialized shows..
