FF ramblings

I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.

3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.

And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

So, plans for tomorrow - we're doing dinner at Milestones on Robson at 5:30, then movie at 7:45 on Burrard. I'm getting downtown ~4:15-30, so if you want we can meet up and get my present and wander around Pacific Centre or wherever. Or else, if you wanted to skip dinner and meet up after, I can just get the present and you can pay me back. Lol, how sentimental are we? XD Anyway, let me know what you want to do.

Also, Jane says she should almost def have the car, so we should be able to get a ride home after. If not, I vote taxi... but shouldn't be a problem.

And I think I'm getting a cold. *sob* Mom's had one for the past week, and I can feel it sneaking up on me... hopefully I'll be okay tomorrow. *sigh*

In the future, the birthday person will be taking his friends to malls and picking out what he wants right there on the spot. It's a trend. And we're starting it. Efficiency is the motto. Bad gifts will be a thing of the past.

It's going to bring about world peace, and we're going to win Nobel Peace Prizes which come with a million dollar side-prize.

I'm starting to get sick too. All of that stress from exams and everything is finally catching up on me. Happens ever year. :\

Plans sound fine. I dunno where I want to jump in though. I'll probably just meet you at the Future Shop around 4:30 or something.

Yeah, I watched the first 6 or so eps, and I caught another ep on the plane to San Diego... very funny. :) Don't think I'll spend the money on renting more DVDs, but I'd like to catch it on TV - when does it air?

Not sure bout today... if we do something, then just something at one of our houses, like watching a movie or TV or something. My throat's killing me. :( But I'm loading up on drugs, lol, and I should be better later. Gonna go to the store and get some Tylenol Cold. I raided our medicene cabinet, and everything is like 1-3 years expired. o.o Including some Dayquill and Tylenol Cold, damn. -__- Anyway, I'll let you know later. Any thoughts to what to do? I've been rewatching B5 if you want to watch an ep, lol. :) I brought s1 down... or we could finish watching the Firefly eps you haven't seen. Or whatever. We could get a movie or something. And Sweeny Todd, though Mom maaay want to go to that (she's trying to decide if she can handle the gore, lol - personally I could care less about the gore, it's Johnny Depp singing for chrissakes!).

I'm cleaning my room. Go me. Well, actually I'm taking a break (for the past, like, hour and a half) and looking for Browncoat Cruise pics online for my scrapbook. Planning to buy some from the official photographs ($1 per digital negative emailed), but the one that I really want (me at the masquerade) is for some reason not available digitally - only as a $3 4X6 print that costs $2.99 to ship. And I think that $6 is a tad steep for one 4X6. o.o So I'm being bad and saving the version (with the copyright watermark) off of their website and erasing the watermark. Only for that pic, though... I hope that the ones they email me are bigger/higher res, too, than the watermarked ones.

Should finish cleaning my room. o.o It's... mostly done. Tis really a relief to get all the crap off of the floor and various surfaces (it was a MESS in here). Ooh, and need to wrap presents. :)

You hear bout this yet? I heard about a week ago, though RottenTomatoes just posted it the other day. Pretty exciting. :) Though no one seems to know if 'two films, Hobbit + a sequel' means 'Hobbit split into two films' or 'Hobbit plus original sequel story bridging gap between Hobbit and LotR'. If it's the later, I... worry. o.o How about a film of Children of Hurin instead? Which I'm hopefully getting for Christmas so I can finally read it... a 'new' Tolkien novel that expands on a story in the Silmarillion? Oh yeah. Dont' know why it took me so long to get around to buying it, really. Didn't really think about it.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this... hopefully they'll do a good job. Wonder if Jackson's going to direct it or someone else? I'm a bit worried aobut him after King Kong, but otoh here he once again has good and rich subject matter to draw from (rather than needlessly expanding a much shorter film) so I still have faith in him. Tired of listening to people whine about him. o.o No the movies weren't perfect, nor were they a perfect adaptation, but they were still damned good. *sigh* Oh, and if you want a taste of true idiocy, check out the comments on that page. XD Some pretty funny shit, esp the guy who's all "omg LotR is pro-war and is brainwashing people to want to fight wars!" Funny.

Ugh.. Yesterday I read that Prison Break's season is ending on February 18th, at 13-episodes; all due to the WGA strike.

I wonder what the odds of it coming back for a fourth season are.

Though I don't really trust the site I read it on, so I'll wait for something to come up on The Futon Critic or something.

Yeah, no surprise there unfortunately.. there's no end to the strike in sight, and nothing's expected to come back this season. As for next season, who knows... let's hope so. o.o Anyway, least there are a few eps and they seem to have proper air dates. SPN is still up in the air - they have 4 eps left, I believe, but they're being postponed until god-knows-when. Reaper's taking over its timeslot for now, then maybe they'll air it when that's done. Course, then Lost will have started and they'll be in the same time slot. :( I'm glad I still have the 8 eps of Lost to look forward to, at least, though it's not much.

Watched Shaun of the Dead. Funny. :) Some hilarious scenes, and it was just so absurd overall that it worked really well. I loved the scene of Shaun going to the store one morning and not even noticing all the zombies walking about, lol. Surprisingly emotional at the end, too. Any idea if they're planning to make a third film? I've really enjoyed both of them.

My friend from rez that was at my b-day party is coming up to Bowen tomorrow for the night. :) We're gonna watch that movie she got me, "Mom and Dad Save the World". It's SO bad, it's gonna be AWESOME. XD XD

Still replaying Xenogears. I have no life... Just fought the boss in the underground cavern with Bart (how the hell did I ever find that battle so hard? It was a fucking cakewalk) and am now at the pirates' hideout. I've realized that I've forgotten a lot of details... case in point - Grahf made his first proper appearance, I cheered a lot and greatly enjoyed the music, but then suddenly realized that I don't really remember who he is. I kiinda do, but it's just vague thoughts and impressions. The details are gone. Wasn't he Lacan? I think? But he had something to do with Fei's father, too, so hell if I remember. Oooh no wait, I remember now! Fei's father was that other dude, Wiseman or something? Guy in the blue cape with a mask I think? Dammit I don't remember! ;__; Anyway, plus side is, I got to be completely re-surprised by the greatest line in the entire game which I had forgotten - "My father? You mean my dad?" HAHA still so funny. Oh Fei, I never realized how damned stupid you are during much of this game. Frankly he's getting on my nerves a bit. o.o Citan and Bart are still awesome, though.

Ahh, fond memories. Can you believe it's been 10 years since it came out? 9 since I first played it. Wow. This is all very nostalgic. :)

Btw, that place I was hoping to rent possibly fell through. She's got some friends and her sister who may be staying with her, so I'm out. :( Oh wells, it might still happen, so long as it does before April/May.

You start classes on Monday? My first one's Tuesday.. first class in about 8 monthes. o.o Longest I've been out of school my entire life!

Hee, I'm having a lenghtly debate right now with Andy about Seinfeld and "The Outing" (watched it tonight again, so funny still). Some interesting points we're considering... about how the episode unveils society's (and perhaps our) latent homophobia and tendency to overcompensate by trying to be super politcally correct. Which just makes us look more bigoted, really. And therefore how hard it is to know how to behave "correctly", because what is "correctly"? It's intriguing. Damned funny episode, anyway.

Yeah, so this (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=7531) is pretty bad. I guess. The CW is removing Supernatural from its lineup completely, instead of airing reruns, after they air the remaining episodes. They'll be putting fucking Reaper in its timeslot.

New episode is on January 31st and it will complete its run by February 28th.

Fuck, that's... just, fuck. Just made a post about it, so you can see my thoughts there. Got this just as I was waiting for the bus at UBC; making use of my last few minutes with UBC wireless on my iPod. Was promptly depressed for the entire ride home. It's amazing, really, how much of an effect he had on all our lives that we're genuinely sad about this. Didn't even know the man, but it still feels like we've lost someone we knew. He was a damned good actor, and he had so much potential. I heard somewhere else that it may have been wholly unintentional because he was taking drugs to help him sleep. Though it seems hard to imagine how you could overdose like that unless you were suicidal or addicted... but we may never know, and I don't want to judge either way. No matter what, it's a hell of a tragedy. His poor, poor daughter... looking at the poster of him and Jake on my wall depresses me now. ;(

Yeah, I know eh.. I only recently even learned about it, when I saw the trailer for it awhile back (I think when we saw I Am Legend?) I didn't realize it was Heath at the time.. learned that later. I've been wanting to see it anyway, but it'll all be that much more meaningful as his last performance. ;_; And rather depressing and disturbing, knowing how difficult he found the role and how his depression and difficulty sleeping as a result was a likely factor in his death. Yikes. Anyway, I bet he's fantastic in it, and I'm looking forward to it. It looks good anyway, and I enjoyed Batman Begins.

I'm so lazy/bored right now that I'm watching a Seinfeld clips episode. And enjoying it. *headdesk* I usually hate these things... (also looking through old skethbooks and getting a kick out of it... nice to see I've improved, anyway. And I'm amused by the fact that most of my sketchbooks have random weird shit drawn by you in them. XD XD)

How was your commute to school? Very inconsiderate of UBC to remain open. SFU, Capilano College, and BCIT were all closed today. Saw footage of transit on the news and it looked like a disaster.

On the upside: real amounts of snow! I love it for aesthetics, but it doesn't last long before everything turns to a mess.
