Goddamned fucking piece of SHIT. My PS2 isn't working, again. A friend was going to come over tonight and we were going to play FFXII, and dammit but I was looking forward to it. Booted it up, and it's not working. PS1 games work fine, but PS2 games and DVDs don't work at all, least not the ones I've tried. I get a sorta clunking noise, and it says no data. I was watching a DVD on it this afternoon, and it worked fine. I'm really pretty fucking pissed off. Last time it happened it righted itself in a few days, so hopefully it will again, but I suspect that it's on its way out... I don't want to buy a new one, and I certainly don't want a PS3. Too expensive, no games I want yet.

Hmm, I'll keep that in mind...

Go figure - strange that I'm having the opposite problem. ^^;

Go figure. I just kinda assumed by default that it'd be super buggy and shit, since this is Sony. ;) But yeah, I think it's pretty good overall... just, no games I want yet. Wii is nifty, but doesn't really have any games I want, either. I don't know much about how buggy Xbox 360 is, but it tends to have a lot of the most popular titles, I guess, which is why it does well. But, few RPGs so I'm not so interested.

Lol, I remember I used to have to hit Cecilia's NES to get it to work... not hard, but still had a give it a good whap. ^^;

Sometimes I still secretly want an NES so I can play FFI on the original. :) Also want an SNES, just out of principal, so I can own FFIV/VI/CT/SoM (still haven't played that...). Which reminds me, I had a dream while ago where I bought an original FFIV... hee.

You've never played SoM? Get the ROM ASAP. It's legendary. :\

The 360 just dies on you. The failure rate is 16-30%.

If you want an S/NES, you really should get your hands on something like this:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=1kcCbgVkfY4 which is basically an SNES and NES built into one. I think it plays games from multiple regions, as well. It's pretty cool - I'd be all over it if I didn't get off on piracy so much.

Lol, I know, I need to play it,,,

Sweeeet. It plays import Super Famicon games, too! Mmm, original FFV cartridge... I seem to recall seeing one when I was in Japan. It excited me. :) You can buy it here - http://store.videogamecentral.com/retroduo-white-blue.html - only $49.99...

That's actually a nice price.. Well, USD and shipping.. But still. You'd probably end up paying just the same for an authentic SNES or NES..

Dude, USD is cheaper than CDN these days. XD

And yeah, you would, looking at the prices for the original systems there. Dunno bout eBay, though.

http://store.videogamecentral.com/nintend031.html
I waaaaants. *covets that plus RetroDuo*

$1 CDN = $0.98 USD. We slipped. But it's for the better - the faster we get to $0.60 USD the better for the World Economy. *sigh*

Haha.. All this oldschool stuff makes me feel like going to the videogame store even more.

I wonder if Videogamecentral does PS2 repair?

Oh well, it's still barely anything.

Holy shit, the shipping for FFI to Canada is $26. WTF.

I know, I'm looking forward to going... maybe I can score an old FF game for cheap, then buy that RetroDuo thing. *wanders over to eBay to check prices*

Oh well, 28th it is then.

I remember Willows had FF1 for a few dollars. They also had a few rares like the NES Zelda games for cheap. I'd love to own them just out of principal, but I don't know if I can justify the money; I wouldn't get any use out of them or anything.

I know, I remember... *cries* They had, like, 2-3 copies of FFI for $5 each. Wish I'd bought them, now, just so I could own them. For that cheap, I'm willing to buy something just out of principal... over $10-15, though, not so much.

I kind of want to play the PSP remake of FF1. I played the GBA one and it was pretty good (albeit easy). Although FFT would still be the first thing I'd buy, given that it's currently out.

Oooh, an original Japanese FFI. I wouldn't be able to play it, but it's cool out of principal. :)

Ooooooooooh, original JPN FFI, II, and III.

Shoot me now.

Nice, but coming from Hong Kong, I'd be weary. It's probably another case of "too good to be true."

Probably, yeah... but it's so cool out of principal.

I'm overdosing on tea that's supposed to make you drowsy. Exam tomorrow - need sleep.

If I die in my sleep, you can have my SNES.

Aww, thanks. XD

You can just take my huge box of games for all I care - I'll be dead.

Better bring someone to carry it though. It's quite heavy.

Date: 2008-04-11 06:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com
Haha, true. :) And then I get your neatly arranged box with all the rare/special games nicely displayed.

Date: 2008-04-11 06:19 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com
Bah I don't have that many rare games. Actually, I've never really done an inventory before, but I don't think it's a spectacular collection or anything.

Date: 2008-04-11 06:22 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com
Well, you have original FF IV/VI/CT, right? Not really rare, per se, but hard to find/expensive these days. Do you have the original boxes/manuals?

Other than that, yeah, suppose it's pretty normal. I thought you had a few difficult to find games, though?

We should be going to bed, you with your exam tomorrow and me with work. ;) *iz tired*

Date: 2008-04-11 06:26 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com
Yeah, those three have their boxes and manuals. They're in rough shape, though.

I probably do have some rare games, but I don't know what they are, and they're probably not as sought after so their values aren't as high, I guess. I'll count them up one day; maybe it'll add another 100 replies to the Legendary Thread.

I dunno. I'm feeling overconfident. I didn't really study for this one seriously enough. I feel like I know the material well, but flipping through the book at the last minute kinda makes you freak out a bit.

I dunno. I guess I'll do practice problems in the morning (is at 1:30 pm) tomorrow just to warm up.

Date: 2008-04-11 06:02 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com
I know what you mean.. but yeah, do some practice problems, and if you don't have too much trouble with those then you should be okay. If you bomb them all, then you can panic. ^__^ (reassuring, aren't I?)
