Um. I JUST BOUGHT A NEW COMPUTER. HOLY FUCK.

*hyperventilates* Damned smooth salesmen at Dell with their "here's the computer you can get XP with and we'll give it to you with free shipping even though these business laptops usually cost $125 to ship" (that after my "okay, wait... I looked online and you charge shipping for your business computers but not for your home ones. And I need a business laptop evidently to get XP. Hmmmm." Immediately came "We'll give you free shipping if you buy it right now with me!") GAAAAAH HELP ME WHAT DID I JUST DO??? Came to $1055 altogether. I can afford it, esp since I've got a large chunk of money (like 7k) coming in from a life insurance policy I'm having paid out. And I might get a loan from work for it; I can get an interest free computer loan since I'm staff. ^__^ Dell put me on a plan so I can put off paying for a couple of weeks (waiting to get the money in... o.o Or might just raise the credit limit on my Mastercard so I can pay it off right now); they said that as long as I pay it all off within 30 days then I won't be charged interest. Hope that's true... I'm reading the loan agreement now and it makes it sound like I have to pay the entire amount (which would be $1500...), but he said that if I pay in the next 30 days then I don't get charged interest. Hm. I don't understand loans that well. o.o

ANYWAY. New computer ZOMG. I oughta be shot... and I should have done this back in March, when my computer first died. *sigh* Oh well...

Integrated graphics cards are fail. They don't have their own dedicated components, so they have to borrow resources from the main parts (e.g., CPU, RAM, etc). This component will most likely be a bottleneck (everything uses video), but I don't know how much of an effect it will have on your computer's performance; your habits will play a huge part.

Other than that it's pretty modest. Other than the video, it's pretty similar to what I'd shoot for if I were in the market for a laptop; save the extreme stuff for the desktop. ;p

Eh bugger. *sigh* That's what will effect playing movies and stuff, right? So it'll slow stuff down when I watch movies? Gr. Hope it doesn't effect it too much or cause things to skip... oh well, nothing I can do bout it now. Rest seems okay, though - better than mine, anyway. ^^;

I'm sure it'll be fine, especially with today's technology; it's just discrete cards are always better than integrated components, is all. If things do start going badly, then look at task manager and close down the programs with high mem usage and high cpu usage, so that the video component has as much resources open to it as possible.

Player and codec choice is also important. Nowadays it's just best to fuck separate codec packs (e.g., CCCP, K-Lite, Nero; of which the latter two should never be used) and get a self-contained player like SMPlayer, MPlayer, or KMPlayer. Keeps it clean and simple.
