Um. I JUST BOUGHT A NEW COMPUTER. HOLY FUCK.
*hyperventilates* Damned smooth salesmen at Dell with their "here's the computer you can get XP with and we'll give it to you with free shipping even though these business laptops usually cost $125 to ship" (that after my "okay, wait... I looked online and you charge shipping for your business computers but not for your home ones. And I need a business laptop evidently to get XP. Hmmmm." Immediately came "We'll give you free shipping if you buy it right now with me!") GAAAAAH HELP ME WHAT DID I JUST DO??? Came to $1055 altogether. I can afford it, esp since I've got a large chunk of money (like 7k) coming in from a life insurance policy I'm having paid out. And I might get a loan from work for it; I can get an interest free computer loan since I'm staff. ^__^ Dell put me on a plan so I can put off paying for a couple of weeks (waiting to get the money in... o.o Or might just raise the credit limit on my Mastercard so I can pay it off right now); they said that as long as I pay it all off within 30 days then I won't be charged interest. Hope that's true... I'm reading the loan agreement now and it makes it sound like I have to pay the entire amount (which would be $1500...), but he said that if I pay in the next 30 days then I don't get charged interest. Hm. I don't understand loans that well. o.o
ANYWAY. New computer ZOMG. I oughta be shot... and I should have done this back in March, when my computer first died. *sigh* Oh well...

Date: 2008-06-25 04:41 am (UTC)Snaps for the new computer though. Seriously awesome! XD I hope it works at least a thousand times better than the old one and has all sorts of shiny features because it's a business laptop.
How long till it arrives?

Date: 2008-06-25 04:55 am (UTC)July 11 is the estimated delivery date, but he said it's usually faster.
I'm starting to panic now about paying for it, heh, and am paranoid that I'll be charged for all that interest even if I pay it off right away. Guess it'll be okay, though, since he said I wouldn't be charged..

Date: 2008-06-25 05:17 am (UTC)That's pretty quick. Hope it gets here next week.
Deep breaths. You'll be fine, you'll be fine, you'll be able to pay it off. You're more financially set than me it sounds like, and I could pay it off. It would put a pretty big dent in my account, but I could do it. So you can too.

Date: 2008-06-25 05:20 am (UTC)I might call them tomorrow to confirm, anyway, since I have one business day to reject the agreement before I'm locked in. And I don't want to suddenly find myself paying $500 more... I could pull some money out of my term deposit if I have to pay it right away. *sigh* I suppose I should just trust what the guy said, but it doesn't seem to jibe with what's in the agreement.

Only diff is I got a 3-year warranty since I'm fed up of paying out the nose for my computer problems and it was only an extra $118...
So, does this sound pretty good? Hope so. ^^;

Date: 2008-06-25 08:11 pm (UTC)Other than that it's pretty modest. Other than the video, it's pretty similar to what I'd shoot for if I were in the market for a laptop; save the extreme stuff for the desktop. ;p

Date: 2008-06-30 12:17 am (UTC)Player and codec choice is also important. Nowadays it's just best to fuck separate codec packs (e.g., CCCP, K-Lite, Nero; of which the latter two should never be used) and get a self-contained player like SMPlayer, MPlayer, or KMPlayer. Keeps it clean and simple.
