...I haven't updated in more than a month. Whoops. I don't know, I'm just lacking the energy to do much of anything online these days. Haven't even read much fic recently. Haven't drawn at all. Haven't posted the cleaned-up version of the drawing/sketch I did for Porn Battle. Haven't posted pictures of some of my latest fannish amigurumi (one of the few fannish things I AM still doing, largely because it's relaxing and I can do it in front of the TV while working my way through Fringe and True Blood. And then I have new things to cuddle because I'm actually a 5-year-old child.). Basically haven't participated in fandom at all...

Meh, I don't know what's wrong with me. Part of it might just be that I'm tragically starting to drift a bit from my main fandom (but am clinging desperately onto it still because I am not ready to leave it behind and also I really wanted to go to RCW 139 next year but if I'm no longer interested enough... :( I really wish I could have gone last summer, or that it had run this summer as well. We'll see, though - at this moment I still really want to go, but not sure how I'll feel in a year.)

Anyway, I'm trying to hype myself up about fandom in general and get back into the swing of things, but it's hard. Mostly I'm just lazy. Well, and fairly busy. Work's slowing way down now, but I've started taking Taekwondo again so that occupies every Monday and Wednesday night. And other nights I'm just lazy and end up sitting on the couch watching TV and crocheting. ^^ Or, in the past week, obesessively resarching hotels and activities in Honolulu for [personal profile] jedinic and my upcoming trip there. You'd think I'd be tired of researching hotels after spending my days at work doing that... but it's kind of addicting and time-consuming because there are SO many choices and I was trying to find something that'd fit what we need. Times like these I rather wish I sold international travel because a. I'd have resources besides Google and Trip Advisor to help me, and b. I'd get industry discounts. As it is, I only get industry discounts if I travel within Canada. ^^

But okay, today I have all day to fuck around and do nothing, so I'm going to at least try to post some stuff and maybe work on some old drawings. And also go out at some point, because Vancouver's decided to give a last burst of summer for today and I want to make the most of it.

Okay, next couple of posts will have actual fannish content, I promise - not just me bitching about my own lack of inspiration and energy for fandom. ^^ Just wish I knew how to get it back... I still love fandom, but sometimes it just tires me out, especially the wank in the bigger fandoms. I need to stick with nice small happy fandoms. :)

Oh Misha, you amuse me...

Cut for spoilers for end of SPN s6 (but no spoilers for s7... )

Gotta love him!

NEW YORK SENATE APPROVES SAME-SEX MARRIAGE.

THEY DID IT. FUCK YEAH.

(I'm still always scared when I hear this kind of news that it will be taken away at any point... but am going to be optimistic!)

I'm thinking back to late 2008/early 2009 when I started writing a Keith/Anderson fic where same-sex marriage got legalized and they got married... I had some really sappy/stupid fantasy stories in my head, too, where they'd come out and get engaged on-air while covering the news about the legalization, or something. Yeah. Good times. :)
ria_oaks: (Fraser WTF)
The good news: Keith is going to be on The Colbert Report on Thursday! Woo! My inner pundit fan is waking up and squeeing loudly.

The bad news: Jesus fuck could we suck more? Mom and I got home from buying dinner fixings (she's staying for a couple of nights) and turned on the game, which was 12 minutes into the 1st period, and we were down 4-0. At first we thought it was a replay of last Monday's/Wednesday's games... but not so much. *sigh* Game 7 here we come? At least it'll be on home ice. If we win at home it'll be crazy exciting. If we lose... yeah. :(

The oh shit news: [community profile] ds_c6d_bigbang is almost ready for us artists! And now our turn to be stressed and panicked comes. :) Looking forward to it, but also eek. I'm barely drawing at all these days and am finding it hard to get the energy to do so in the evenings, so this will be interesting. ^^

GO CANUCKS

WOOO! Finally! We didn't suck! We actually won! Yay Vancouver!! God it must be nuts downtown.. wonder how it's comparing to what I heard of last Saturday. The shots of downtown on the television were amazing- more people than at the Olympics, it seemed like. Watched the game with [profile] cerulean_pulsar at my place then wandered around enjoying the much smaller level of craziness in North Van - lots of excitement and car honking and yelling, but not that many people on the whole. Most people are prob still downtown and will be until, like, 1am. ^^

Anyway, WE CAN DO THIS THING! HELL YEAH! We are THIS CLOSE. I'm torn between wanting them to win on Monday and wanting it to go to game 7 because really, it'd be awesome if they could win here in Vancouver on Wednesday. (and wtf's with going to Boston for Monday then back here for Wednesday? That seems like an excessive amount of travelling...). I'm not sure this city could handle the stress of game 7... I'm just imagining the entire city calling in to work sick on Thursday morning if we win. Or if we lose, really. XD
ria_oaks: (Fraser WTF)
Oh for... seriously, end of period 2 and we're down 3-0? Fuck me, that's all I can stand to watch tonight. I'll check back at some point in the third period to see if we're not sucking quite as much, but I don't usually watch much hockey to begin with and this is just depressing. Maybe they'll be better when they're back home on Friday?

Anyway, more cheerful stuff - various upcoming events that I wanted to remind everyone about and see who's coming. :)

- Can't Stop the Serenity is June 25th from 11am-6pm. It's going to awesome as always. And I'm making another crochet Tardis for the silent auction! Aside from the movie itself, we're having a Dr. Horrible sing-along which will be lots of fun. Tickets available online at the link above, or let me know if you're coming and I can pick up a ticket next time I'm at Fontana's... Plus, we'll hopefully be showing off our dancing skills with our first performance of Thriller! Everyone's been learning it for months, and I just caught up and learned it myself.

- Which brings me to... Zombiewalk on August 20 and Thrill the World on Oct 23rd (I think). Anyone else want to learn to dance Thriller and come with me? Come on, it's fun and easy! I learned most of it in a day, and if I can do it then anyone can... Our group is doing it at Zombiewalk and then of course for the Thrill the World event. I've never actually been to Zombiewalk, so this oughta be interesting!

- X-Men: First Class - anyone want to come with me? Maybe this weekend? Or whenever, I'm not picky. But I def want to see it, and figured some of you would too.

Okay, that's it for now. Well, there are a bunch more movies, but they're still a ways off.

Okay, some White Collar thoughts (didn't want them in the other post in case people wanted to comment on the rest of the post and didn't want to accidentally be spoiled)

White Collar s3 premiere! )
ria_oaks: (Default)
White Collar season 3 tonight! Woooo! Just in time, because all my other American shows are over and DW just finished on Saturday. WC is all I'll have for awhile... well, until Torchwood starts in July. I'm psyched for this season. I'm not really spoiled at all, just some general stuff about whose backstory we're getting/what character-centric eps there will be, all info that was in interviews right after s2 ended. But that info's got me excited. :)

Other TV stuff: I'm finally watching Castle. Yeah, been meaning to for awhile. Am in season 2 - just watched the Halloween ep with the infamous Firefly shoutout last night. I'd seen that clip online already ages ago, but it was still hilarious. I'm really enjoying it so far, anyway. Nathan's entertaining as hell, and Beckett is awesome and sexy. :)

Other general stuff... went to see "Midnight in Paris" with mom last night, which was excellent. If you have at least some familiarity with early twentieth century writers/artists/etc then it's hysterical. I know enough to have recognized most of the references/people, at least to some extent. It's very well done and worth seeing. We went to a restaurant beforehand and watched the game over dinner. Had to leave for the theatre at the end of the 2nd period, but well. That was really all we needed, anyway, by that point. (they were losing 3-0 when we left, and then we walked to the theatre and I overheard someone say it was 4-0. Then I checked my phone partway into the movie and my jaw dropped because really? 8-1? That's just pathetic. I have co-workers who went to Rogers Arena last night to watch it on the big screens they have set up for the away games, and they said people were steadily leaving during the 3rd period.)

Oh well...we're still ahead in the series. It's fun watching how crazy Vancouver's become, anyway - like renaming anything that has 'Boston' in it to 'Vancouver'. XD I definitely did a double take when I first walked by the Boston Pizza near my apartment last week only to see the usual banner replaced with one where 'Boston' is crossed out and replaced with 'Vancouver'. ^^ Also when I went to Tim Hortons the other day and spent about a minute or so trying to figure out what a 'Vancouver Cream' donut was and why the name was in Canucks colours, before it clicked...

And okay, since the time I wrote most of this post, I took a break to eat dinner and then watch White Collar. Yay show is back! Anything more is spoilery, and I'm lazy. It'll be interesting to see where this season goes...

This is being recced everywhere, but it really is lovely... I don't know a lot of the sources (actually, I barely recognize any, which is rather embarrassing!) but it's still fantastic and inspiring and beautiful and very well done. Great song, great clips, and really quite moving, especially the last shot. Yay for awesome women in space.

Boo, I finished watching SGA tonight... am rather sad that it's over. I never got all that super into it, but I enjoyed it on the whole. It really is too bad it didn't get a season 6 and a movie evidently isn't happening, because I'm definitely intrigued to see what could happen next - it would have been a very different show in s6, I think, and it would have been interesting to watch. Sigh. :(

Anyway, with SGA finished I need a new show! [profile] cerulean_pulsar, who got me into and lent me SGA, is bound and determined to get me to watch SG-1 but I don't see that happening anytime soon. It's just... 10 freaking seasons. And I've never really had any interest in it, though I might watch someday. SGA I mostly wanted to watch because of the slash fandom, heh. And yet ironically, John/Rodney never really clicked for me. I like the characters (esp Rodney, because frankly John's not particularly interesting imo) and I like the pairing well enough, but not in an "OMG they're meant for each other OTP forever!" kind of way. I've read some fic and enjoyed it, but don't have much desire to read a lot more. Not like dS, where I'm still always on the prowl for good fic I haven't read. ^^

So. Other shows to watch. Next up is probably Castle, since I've only seen the first 3 eps and, you know. It's Nathan! On a network show that's lasted 3 seasons and is still going! I'm so proud of him... :) I also want to watch Fringe, so between the two that'll keep me busy for a lot of the summer. Want to be caught up on both, if I get into them, by September.

Any other recommendations for good shows to watch? Any genre/SF shows I absolutely must watch that I haven't? I feel like I've actually seen most of the major SF TV franchises now to at least some extent, with one rather glaring ommission... and while I would like to finally watch some Trek (because really, what kind of SF fan am I?) I don't even know where to start. o.o [profile] cerulean_pulsar thinks TNG or Voyager (his favourite) - any second opinions?

Oh, and there's always The Sentinal if I feel like getting my cheesy '90s slash fandoms on! I'd like to check it out at least a bit, out of curiousity if nothing else. I was reading a summary of the show last night because I really didn't know anything about it beyond the fact that evidently Jim and Blair are in love, and wow - yeah, it really does sound slashy. XD
ria_oaks: (Default)
FUCK YEAH.

(also thank god it's over, there's only so much hockey I can take and this game was never-ending)

Listening to the cheers outside... it must be pretty crazy downtown.
ria_oaks: (Default)
Holy shit... Y'all know I'm not normally a sports fan but, well, the Canucks are up 3-1 in the 3rd round of the playoffs and are kicking ass, and dude, they just scored with 14 seconds to go in a game they were losing 2-1! Even I'm excited right now. XD (yeah, I'm actually watching and have been semi-consistently since the playoffs started.. or at least i've been putting it on in the background and doing other stuff while half-listening). And that was pretty amazing. :)

It's hard not to be excited in Vancouver right now, really. ^^ The entire city has gone nuts... even us non-hockey-fans have jumped on the bandwagon. (case in point, until a few weeks ago I didn't even know there WERE 4 rounds with up to 7 games each. Yeah, I was a pretty obvlious-to-hockey Canadian... am somewhat less oblivious now, and it really would be exciting if we win)

...been trying to find a dS icon of Fraser playing hockey in The Blue Line, but nada. And now overtime's started so I'm going to post this before someone scores and it becomes moot...

Saw Pirates 4 tonight with [personal profile] flamebyrd, her husband, and a group of local fans... consensus? Lots of fun hanging around chatting with everyone, punctuated by a little over two hours of boredom. Not really any spoilers I don't think, but still... )

Okay, enough complaining. :) I had lots of fun hanging out with everyone, at least.

Random other things:

- I saw Thor a couple of weeks ago. Infinitely better than Pirates, and I greatly enjoyed it. Lots of fun, and lots of eyecandy. ;

- Watched the SV finale last week. I stopped watching in s7 so I read some summaries to catch up. Strange coming back after 3 seasons, because so much has changed, but I still enjoyed it. Nice to see Clark and Lex one last time, and I totally lost it and started crying at the end because. Oh. LEX. We knew it was your destiny and we saw it in flashforwards years ago, but to actually see it happen... :( And then the music and Clark in the costume, and oh. I do rather miss that show.

- not sure what to say about the SPN finale... I liked it well enough. Am as freaked about the ending as everyone, but am hoping it will be resolved satisfactorily and am reasonably confident that it's the *spoilers* making *spoiler* act that way. ;)

- Speaking of SPN, I made a Castiel doll! After 6.20 I felt like I'd need one to hug in the finale, so I made one and mostly finished him in time for Friday. Got the wings on with velcro just yesterday, though, and still want to add some details to his trenchcoat. Will post pictures at some point.

- Work's ok. Busy. Evidently a lot busier than last year at this time, which makes me feel better about being behind in what needs to be done but still stressed about getting it done on time. Sigh. Kinda don't actually have time for a long weekend, though it's nice! Went up to Bowen last night. Tomorrow is hanging out at home, maybe drawing (I have several dS things I want to work on, most of them porny XD), and cleaning the house. Wooo. Livin' it up!

Huh. Evidently I have basically no Pirates icons. What the hell was I using that summer I was in the fandom? o.o This will have to do, then. Sums up my feelings about the movie quite well.

So it's been a stressful couple of days... long story short: my iPhone died on Thursday. It fell out of my pocket in the street and then a few seconds later went into recovery mode, and I haven't been able to restore it since. Spent all of Thursday evening on Google trying to figure it out, but no luck. Tried it on other computers, took it to the Apple store (they were useless!), and no luck. So yeah, Thursday night sucked.

Friday at lunch I went to the Apple store (useless, as I said - they tried the same thing I did and of course it didn't work); they said they could replace it for $229. I went to Bell, and they said they could upgrade me to a new iPhone 4 and get me a better rate plan, for $159. So yeah. :) Got a new iPhone 4. Suppose I should be happy about this, but I'm still kinda mourning my 3GS... had it for a year and a half, and I don't like the buttons on the iPhone 4. :( But I got it up and jailbroken today (I was out all evening yesterday at Stars on Ice, which was fun but means I haven't had a chance to relax at home since, like, Tuesday night, until today), and now it feels more like my phone.

Spent several hours trying to get my lockscreen back how I like it - the tap to unlock app I used to use doesn't work on iPhone 4, and the only compatible one I know of doesn't work right with Lockinfo (which I can't live without now - emails on my lockscreen!). But I ended up using Activator to make a single press of my Home button unlock my phone so woo. Close enough. Got my Carry on Wayward Son ringtone back, got my icons how I like them, got my Callum lockscreen background and my Tardis homescreen background... not to mention all my data (minus one month worth, because evidently I haven't backed up my phone since April. -_- Lost all of Angry Birds Seasons Easter, plus about an hour of FFIII... oh well.). Still got some stuff to download from Cydia, but basically am up and running.

Overall, stressful week... busy at work + almost losing the SOI tickets on Tuesday + being exhausted all week for no apparent reason (well, lack of sleep I think - I need at least 7-8 hours, and I guess only getting 6-6.5 is catching up on me. Yeah I know that's a fair amount relatively speaking, what can I say, that's my body. ^^) + phone dying = stress and feeling kinda sick for a lot of the week. Enjoyed my nice relaxing day today. Planning to continue that tomorrow. :)

Also, sorry I haven't responded to your SPN emails, [personal profile] quettalinde... was too tired Wednesday night to say much, and had planned to respond Thursday night. Then everything went to hell. And got distracted today and forgot... will try to respond with something soon?

And on a completely separate and quick note - how amazing was DW today? So good. I really ought to read more Gaiman...
ria_oaks: (Fraser WTF)
Ohgodohgodohgod FUCK ME GODAMMIT. I'm freaking the fuck out because I can't find the tickets for Stars on Ice on Friday. And I was so FUCKING STUPID that I bought them at the actual Ticketmaster downtown, not online. Used a credit card at least, and they're reserved seats, so they SHOULD be replaceable, but stupid Ticketmaster's website is useless and just says “maybe”. What the FUCK I DON’T GET IT. Where could they BE? They should be on my desk, or at least in my bag. WIsh I could call Ticketmaster, but it’s 11:20pm so it’s not like they’ll be open. And I had planned to be in bed an hour ago because I really need to start getting more sleep, and now I’m wired as fuck and won’t be able to sleep.

Fuuuuck. This isn’t happening. They MUST be replaceable. I bought them on my credit card and I have a receipt, so I presume they have a record of it. God that’s the last time I ever buy tickets in person not online. So stupid.
ria_oaks: (Default)
*flails wildly* 2 weeks until the finale, god help me. Needs to come quicker!

One non-spoilery note - I saw the scene that they were filming the day I went out to UBC to try to see them. ^^ Did a search online for pictures of the garden just to make sure, and yeah, that was it. Sweet. Wish I could have seen it, but still.

Also: Watched last night's Community earlier. Oh SHOW, I love you. Thank god it's been renewed! Only one ep left this season... I totally yelled when a certain guest star showed up - glad I wasn't spoiled for that. Aww, forgotten how much I love and miss him. I miss that show. :( And he's still oh so pretty.

(I really need another Cas icon, don't I...? This is all I have. ^^)

[personal profile] hells_half_acre - sorry I cancelled on you guys... I came home for a rest after work, and was just too tired and bleh-feeling to want to bus over to town again. Hope you had fun and enjoyed the episode!
ria_oaks: (Default)
Well now that I can legally talk about election results *eyeroll*... ugh. Not surprising I guess, but ugh. Here's hoping he doesn't get a majority. NDP as the opposition will be interesting, though. :)

And yay for #tweethteresults for letting me know the results ahead of time, depressing though they are. :) You can't stop the signal! (tbh, I mostly just wanted to make this post as an excuse to say that). The whole media blackout thing is ridiculous, and not really enforcable anymore..
*looks back at TV* Wow the NDP have got a lot of seats. o.o Pretty cool. I've never seen the BQ get that few seats. ^^ Or the Liberals for that matter... still got some time to wait until we get to my ridings (the one I actually voted in, and the one I grew up in/technically live in again and should probably have voted in). Fingers crossed! They both went Conservative in the last election.

According the CBC the record number of seats the NDP ever got in the past was 43. They're at 83 now and counting... certainly a change. :)

And now, let's just pray the Conservatives don't get a majority... not that I really want yet another minority government (and the inevitable election in another 2 years), but I really don't want that man in complete charge of my country. o.o
ria_oaks: (Default)
Just put in on order for these: 2D Glasses Seems faintly ridiculous to spend extra money to buy them and then go spend $3 more at the theatre than normal just to see 3D, but if movies continue to only be in 3D... least this way I can go see Thor, and HP7 if it's not in 2D. Plus of course, I want to be able to actually go with my friends, and not all alone as the sole non-3D watcher. :( So yay for these. I remember ThinkGeek.com had them as an April Fools joke, and evidently they've become real since them - I think they just started being sold a week or so ago. So yay, and thanks to [personal profile] quettalinde for bringing them to my attention. :) Hope they work!

(I really really hate all the people in the comments saying "who don't you just go see the 2D version?" (with "you're an idiot for buying these" heavily implied), though. Fuck you assholes, if I could then I would. Maybe y'all haven't noticed that 2D versions of 3D movies barely EXIST anymore? Or it doesn't occur to you that even if there IS a 2D version that it's more fun to go to a movie event that's been 10 years in the making for me (since I first got into HP 10 years ago, before the 1st movie or even the 5th book was out yet and this day seemed like a century away) with a group of friends instead of by myself? Jesus. *grumble* Sorry, those people are really actively pissing me off. ^^

Anyway... ranting aside, I'm in a better mood today. ^^ Gorgeous warm sunny day out, FINALLY, and the weekly crafting group was fun as always. Went off with a couple of the others on a quest to a nearby army surplus store (I'm tentatively thinking of doing Starbuck for Halloween...) which was sadly closed. But there were nifty antique stores nearby so we wandered around them and amused ourselves looking and crazy weird and old shit. Good times. :) I'm working on a crochet Chocobo (crochet!Serenity is pissing me off... it just doesn't look like her at all. o.o), and it's coming along though it looks kinda weird heh. Oh well. Next up... possibly the sunflower from Plants vs Zombies if I can figure it out. Or Vecchio, to go with Fraser and Kowalski. Because I don't want to leave him out. :) And then I'm thinking of making Mal Reynolds based on this pattern for the Can't Stop the Serenity auction in June, since clearly Serenity isn't working out too well. o.o And hey, I hadn't even realized that she'd actually made a Mal already (I was just going to modify the basic human pattern above), but here he is. So that'll give me a reference to work from for his clothing...
ria_oaks: (Default)
Huh. So, evidently I'm not going to get to see Thor in a decent theatre. Or the final HP movie. Or any other movie I've been looking forward to... for awhile there at least a few decent theatres in Vancouver would have the 2D versions of movies, but if the currently available showtimes for Thor are any indication? That ain't happening anymore. Not one fucking theatre in the entire Lower Mainland is showing Thor in 2D, or at least if they are then their showtimes aren't up yet for next Friday. All the big theatres/Silvercities/etc are 3D only. So is the little local cinema 2 minutes from my apartment. Guess I'm shit out of luck, along with another 10% of the population... this really really sucks. I thought for sure it'd be in 2D somewhere. Here's praying that HP7 will be.

In the meantime, as soon as my benefits kick in (5 more weeks) I'm going to make an appointment with the eye doctor... I suppose it's finally time to see if I can do something to fix my lazy eye/evident lack of proper depth perception so I can actually see movies in the future. (I tried this test and totally couldn't do it... no wonder I found it hard to judge distances between cars when I briefly drove 8-odd years ago, heh).

And in other news, I owe $500 to CPP because I was partially self-employed last year and wasn't paying tax/making CPP contributions directly off of what I was making. So much for hoping I wouldn't owe anything/would maybe get a refund because of write offs and school tuition... guess I technically don't owe any tax, anyway. And this is still my money, I just... won't see it until I retire. ^^; Oh well. Thank god I have a job now.

...okay yeah, sorry, I'm feeling sorry for myself and have been in a bad mood for 2 days. Am pms-ing all over the place, or at least that's my excuse. Should have seen me at work yesterday, I was feeling twitchy and irritable and stressed and it wasn't until the afternoon that it finally occurred to me why that probably was. ^^; (people making last minute bookings didn't help - trying to get confirmations back from hotels and tour companys back east for stuff next week, and they're all "it's confirmed!" and I'm all "it's almost 5pm your time on Friday and all I need is an email saying what you just told me because I can't confirm it over the phone! Jesus it's not that hard to write an email!" and gaaaaah.)

*ventvent* Yeah. And drawing class this morning mostly just stressed me out because I've had no inspiration or energy to draw for weeks, and drawing still lifes really really bores me. We do figures for the second half of the class, anyway, which I much prefer.

...wow this is pathetic. I'm gonna go watch the new ep of DW now... that should help. ^^;

Oh, and happy birthday Paul Gross! Totally didn't realize until [personal profile] quettalinde told me. I'm a bad fan... 52 and still lookin' good. :)
