Just found out why Angel was airing on the TV at the bar I was in on Saturday night... evidently it airs on one of the main channels here at 1:10am every Sunday morning. Next ep is Sanctuary, sure enough, and the ep that was on at the bar was Five by Five... omfg that's so sweet, but it's so late that I probably won't be able to watch it... STILL. ANGEL. On free television! WTF if hasn't aired in Canada in YEARS. ;_;

Also, I was just watching some Australian comedy show and WTF Jensen Ackles showed up. I think it was a 'best of' episode so his appearance is from awhile ago, but OMG Jensen. Crazy. XD One of my new roommates stated categorically that "wow he's hot!" LOL. Indeed.

"wow he's hot!'

At which point you said, "Did you know he's the star of this awesome TV show?" Right? XD

That's cool that it's airing there. Maybe when you find yourself with insomnia or something, you can catch an episode?

For the record, I just finished She. Didn't like it as much as some of the others. The ghost one was awesome! XD I like Dennis.

Lol yeah, I did, but they didn't say anything... oh well. (incidentally, you see last week's ep? ROFL at the slash joke).

Yeah, I'd totally be willing to stay up occasionally, it's just that cuz I'm sharing the apartment... don't want to bother people. Otoh, Saturday night people are more likely to be out, and one girl works at a bar, so that's good. :)

And oh yeah, She's a pretty bad ep, lol. Ghost ep was great though, I agree, as were I Will Remember You (sniff) and of course Hero (double sniff). And ep10 is Wes's first ep, so yayz at that. ;) Anyway, if you just saw She... lesse. Next ep is good, imo, and has some interesting Wes stuff. And once you get to 18-19, those two are excellent. :)

Oh well. And no, unfortunately, I haven't seen a single episode since I moved. I need a regular internet connection to watch the episodes, because I can't tape them because my VCR is too old to be programmable. Grr. I'm in serious SPN withdrawal, which isn't being mitigated as well as I'd like by Whedon.:(

Yeah, good point. You couldn't stick a pair of headphones in the TV? It would be quiet that way…

Oh gawd, yes, Wesley, with the clumsiness and the wooby and the absolutely need to be involved while pretending he's all mature and with it, lol. I giggled the entire way through ep10. Thanks for the hints of the future. ^^

Harsh. :( Hope you get the Internet going soon and can see them... anyway, it's on hiatus until late April now, so at least you won't be missing anything for awhile. :)

Nah, just checked and there aren't any headphone jacks. Oh well.

I know, he's so adorably dorky! Oh, early Wes... you have no idea what's coming you poor bastard, lol.

(and let me know how hinty I can get - because I know you've seen bits of later in the series and know at least some of what happens, but I'm never sure how much I should say...)

Date: 2009-04-08 10:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com
Yeah, me too. Good to know I have time to catch up. Phew. Dollhouse wouldn't happen to be on hiatus too, would it? ^^;

Darn. :(

Poor bastard indeed… not that I've gotten there, but I've heard things. I've just finished, um, can't remember the title, but the first one with Gunn. Wes is already getting more backbone, which is nice. (You know, it's weird watching the episodes in order. I thought the Gem of Amara episode and the Gunn episode were a finale and premiere respectively. Huh. The things you learn.)

Hmm. I know Lorne, though not how he joins the team. I know of Fred and Iliya (or whatever her name is), but only really the names and the possession-craziness stuff. I don't know how they enter in, and I'd rather not know. I know Spike becomes a regular, but not when. I've seen the puppet episode and the one with Jasmine. I know some of the Darla and Connor stuff, and I know that involves an apocalypse. Beyond that, feel free to hint but not spoil. ^^

Hmm, not sure. *goes to check* There's an ep this Friday, then the next one is the 24th. How is it, anyway? I've still only seen the first 3 eps.. eheheh.

War Zone, yeah. Yay Gunn. :) And heh, yeah, I imagine it's kinda odd after having seen so many bits and pieces in random order... anyway, almost done s1! 2 more left... and s2 is awesome awesome. :)

Ahh Lorne.. gotta love him. :) Guess you saw my recent post about Andy Hallett? So sad. :( He was only 33, too...

Okay, will keep all that in mind. :)

From: [identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com
Ah, okay. So not really a hiatus, then. I haven't seen past the first three episodes either. I kind of moved and lost internet and I can't program my fricking VCR. DX I'm hoping it's good.

Yeah, I kind of like Gunn. He's got a good heart and an awesome attitude. I've finished 2.2 right now, which means I've officially "met" Lorne. I like him, but then, I always did. :) Andy Hallett might be dead, but Lorne will live on. Also, yay Hyperion! XD

Date: 2009-04-10 01:11 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com
That sucks. :( Can you pick up a cheap used VCR that will work better? ^^

Yeah, Gunn's cool... esp in s2, imo.

Yay Lorne. :) He's definitely awesome... and indeed, Andy Hallett will live on through him. :( (and I still can't believe he was only ~24 when he started on Angel... always thought he was older).

And yes, yay for the Hyperion! Always loved that set. And isn't 2.2 awesome?? I love that episode. 2.3's fun, and has some nice Wes/Angel subtext. XD Oh season 2... you were awesome. ^^

(btw, I discovered that the network that airs Angel early early Sunday morning also airs Buffy on Thursday nights! At midnight, granted, but still! I watched a bit last night, it was a season 1 ep... not a very good one, either, and one I've only seen a couple of time YEARS ago. Our electricity's on the fritz, though, so I turned it off partway through and went to bed (fuse box was making creepy crackling electricity sounds last night whenever we used any appliances... someone's supposed to be coming by to look at it today. o.o).

I'm looking. :)

He certainly doesn't look 24 in the special features for s2 either… Huh.

2.2 was indeed awesome. Contemporary(ish) backstory, not that I mind the 1700s and 1800s. 1920s were much better. XD

Buffy too? NICE. I hope your fuse box gets fixed soon. (I'm having minor plumbing issues, which the landlords are working on fixing. Apparently, having a 20 minute shower or using the equivalent amount of water will cause the pipes to back up and flood the bathroom. Who knew?)

Good luck. ^^

Yeah, I know eh? I always thought he was in his 30s...

You mean 1950s. XD McCarthy era. Always loved the little touches in the episode, like the headlines about the Cold War and McCarthy on the papers people were reading. And of course how the episode mirrored the fear and paranoia of the times. Good stuff.

You gotten any further yet?

Yeah, they came and looked at the fuse box and it's working now. They're still going to (hopefully) send in a proper electrician to make sure it's safe, though.

Oh dear. o.o Good luck with that!

1952, 1925, same difference. *headdesk* And yeah, with the paranoia, I really should have remembered that. I loved the McCarthy hints too. (Hmm. Perhaps McCarthy had his very own paranoia demon?)

Finished 3.1 and decided that I've probably ODed a little on Angel for the moment. Going to give my brain a day or two to recharge. God, I loved the Pylea episodes! Good crack with dark undertones. XD On the subject of 3.1, I always thought pregnant!Darla was a season four feature, not season three… >>

From: [identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com
Lol sure, same diff. ;) But yeah, I really liked how they tied the story into the era...

Wow that was fast. ^^ Yeah, that's a lot of Angel in a short time. How'd you enjoy s2?? Isn't it great? Esp Reunion and Reprise/Epiphany (and it took me a sec to remember the ep names, eek! been too long). That shot of Angel closing the door in Reunion.. dark stuff. :) Loved that entire storyline, and it's still one of my favourites of the show. I thought it was really interesting because it proved that having a soul didn't automatically make him good. He did some borderline-Angelus stuff in that storyline, but he had a soul... so how much difference, really, is there between him and Angelus? Food for thought. :)

Oh yeah, Pylea - fun stuff. And if you didn't know... Numfar ( Lorne's relative-of-some-sort who was doing the silly dances) is played by Joss. XD XD Gotta love that man.

Yup, the pregnant!Darla stuff is s3. :) Interested to see your take on all of it... heh. Let me know when you've see more of s3.

(btw, one of my favourite s2 eps was a totally ridiculously silly one, but one that fed into my everlasting Wesley obsession... 2.06 'Guise Will Beguise' - the one where he pretends to be Angel. Always loved that episode, it was hilarious... Alexis hammed it up so well. ^^ (and speaking of, you see my post of him and Alyson with their new daughter?? So cute! I'm so happy for them, heh).)

Yeah, I know… And now that my computer is working again, I can continue with the marathon! XD I loved how dark some of s2 ended up being, though I'll readily admit to enjoying the lighter episodes a little better. I'm not sure now much I like Wolfram and Hart as villains, from a personal taste standpoint, but they were darn effective in moving that storyline along, hee. I'm glad Lindsey left, because he needed to and because his constant changing of sides was starting to get annoying. ^^;

The thing with Angelus, heh, yeah. I'd definitely noticed that. I think it's not the soul itself that made Angel good; it was the conscience that came with it. When he was willing to ignore the conscience, Angelus started coming forward. (That fits with reality, too. I'm pretty sure serial killers have souls.)

I didn't know that about Numfar! Heheh. I can see that, though… Must rewatch those scenes at some point.

Okay, will do. I'm, sheeh, I'm just about starting the one where Darla arrives in LA again, I think.

lol Yes, I can see that feeding the Wesley obsession… Silly episode indeed, and he did a fairly convincing job of Angel, provided you didn't know Angel. Loved his reaction to the blood. ^^

Heh, well, there were lots of good light eps too, yeah. :) Either way, great season... though watch what you say about Lindsey! *glare* lol. I was SO sad when he left, heh. Esp after that ep, which was so awesome (and until that point I had no idea that Christian Kane was a singer - he's the lead singer of Kane, and his songs are kind of a country/rock mixture... surprisingly good considering I don't like the genre in general. ^^) As for W&H... heh, I dunno, they had their moments and I liked the idea (an actually evil law firm - clever, I thought). But I can see not being that excited by them. ^^ I mostly just liked Lindsey. And LILAH, my god, I loved her. Especially later. :)

Yeah... that was the point, I guess, that I meant - real humans have souls, obviously, but they can do horrible things. So having that soul didn't by default make him good. Which of course brings up the question of, does not having a soul automatically make you purely evil? both shows tended towards answering yes to that, but they still showed the potential for good in characters with no soul (namely Spike, obvs). But anyway, I haven't meta-ed about Buffy in AGES, man. Heh. Complex questions, anyway...

What happened to Buffy, btw? Did you finish s4? Sorry I don't have S5-7 on DVD. ^^ You planning on watching them online? (or check out the library, maybe...)

From: [identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com
Heh, Lindsey as a person I liked just fine. I just didn't like his "lol I'm evil! lol I'm good! lol I'm evil!" routine—partly I guess because I felt he was better than that. Maybe that was the point? I absolutely adored his final boardroom scene. "Evil hand! Evil hand! It's making me quit! So long, suckeeeerrrrrs!" XD Very Angelesque, I thought.

Oh yes, the idea of W&H is win, and I like them slightly better in s3 from what I've seen so far. Lilah, though? Yay for the strong, empowerd, feminine thing, but I've gotta say, if ever there was a TV character that deserved the title of Bitch, it's her. So no, don't like Lilah, but that's because she's so well-crafted.

Yeah. Right. :) Very nice show of the ambiguity/continuum stuff with that. I bet there've been some very awesome metas on the topic that have sprung out of the Whedonverse, on the true nature of good and evil, where you draw the line, etc. You see that with Buffy and Angel's fights, too. Like the whole issue with Merle, and whether you can kill a werewolf because they're human 28 days of the month. *nods*

Yeah, I finished s4. The penultimate episode felt a lot more finale-y to me, which made the dream episode feel weird, which was probably intentional. I'm betting that the Slayer issue becomes a lot more prevalent in s5, based on the fact that the whole finale was about that? And yes, I'm definitely planning on finishing the series, preferably on DVD. I'm going to finish Angel first, then start making noises around the Whedon fan at work, because I know she's got all the seasons and she'll take pity on me… XD Or at least, I'm hoping she will.

Heh, it's true that they did pull him around on that a bit... I think he had the potential for good in the end there, though. That's why I was so sad to see him go, it seemed like there was a lot of potential for his character to grow after that ep.

Oh yes, she's a Bitch capital B, and that's why I and many others love her. :) She's bad-ass and evil and unrepentent for the most part, but she also has her more human moments and I don't think she was all evil... but I don't want to say any more for fear of spoilers. :) (plus I totally had a crush on Stephanie Romanov... so talented and so sexy. ^^)

Yeah, I'm sure there's been lots of meta on the nature of evil in Buffy, etc... I just haven't read it in ages. ^^ I've got a couple of books that I own (including Buffy and Philosophy), which are interesting. There have been so many books on the show... not to mention all the meta and discussion on gender, etc.

S4 finale... heh, yeah, that's always been kind of a love it/hate it episode. It's certainly unusual, esp for a finale, though I think he did it on purpose for that reason... you know Joss, he likes to mess with us. ^^ For all intents and purposes 4.21 finished the main plot of s4, and 4.22 is really more of a character study. I do quite enjoy it, I thought it was an interesting look at the characters... also, Tony Head singing! And there was definitely some weird cracky shit in that ep, more I think about it the more I remember... heh.

Anyway, the slayer issue/origin of the slayer/etc definitely does come back later, I'll say that much and I hope that's okay. ^^ Won't say when or how, though. :)

That's good you have someone to lend the rest of Buffy to you - makes things easier!

Lemme know when you finish s3 of Angel, anyway... or at least when you get to a certain mid-late-season episode and I think you'll figure out what I mean when you see it. ;) And then on to s4, which though it had its low points also had some really fucking fantastic stuff and overall was my favourite at the time (probably in part because it was the first season I watched as it aired, and because it has some fantastic Wesley stuff).

Date: 2009-04-24 06:53 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com
Oh yes, he definitely has potential. I can't remember—does he come back? By the way you're talking, I guess not, which is kind of sad but makes sense with how much of a splash he made and W&H.

I'm not about to start reading. I don't think it would ever end… ^^;

Oh yes, I will give it unusual in spades. XD Intriguing as well. Just not the standard sort of cliffhanger or resolution one expects. Do you remember how it was received at the time, or were you immersed in fandom enough to know by then? I completely agree about the messings and the character study aspects.

Mkay. If you're referring to the activation of multiple Slayers, I know that. I got that from post-Chosen fanfiction. ^^

Okay, will do. Are you sure I'll know the episode you're referring to when I see it? Is it heavy on Angel/Wesley, is that why? lol

Date: 2009-04-24 07:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com
I actually didn't want to say or indicate if he comes back or not, so I was trying to be coy. ;) Or at least describe my feelings upon watching it at the time which were "omgwtfNO!"

Lol yes, there is a lot out there.. I haven't really read much, least not for years.

I wasn't in fandom at the time (I started watching in BtVS s7/AtS s4, and caught up via the Internet... the good ol' days of Kazaa, heh), but I think opinion was mixed and still is. It's definitely an unusual season finale, though not completely out of the ordinary - I've seen similar things on other shows (one season of B5 has a somewhat similar finale, in that the main story is wrapped up in the penultimate ep and the finale is... different. Heh. But there were other reasons for that (namely not knowing if the show would be renewed until the last moment - there was always a particular episode to be shown as the series finale and it was already filmed by then, but they didnt know if they'd need it or not... when the show was renewed they scrambled and made a new finale. It's another love it/hate it ep. I actually didn't like it the first time through, but I enjoy it now... just depresses me a bit...).

Er, anyway. ^^ Sorry, tangent.

Yeah, I was referring mainly to that and the associated slayer storylines of s7. Though thinking on it now, there's at least one episode of s5 that deals with the issue. And I'll shut my mouth now before I say any more...

Heh, I think you will. Suffice to say, it is THE turning point episode for Wes. Once you see it I think you'll know what I mean even without knowing the rest of his character arc. It's the turning point for quite a few storylines, actually.

Anyway, off now to my first get-together of Spaced Out, the Melbourne GLBT & allies Science Fiction club. ^__^ They're going to be watching Merlin. Oughta be entertaining, cheesy though I've heard the show is. At least there's lots of homoerotic subtext, plus Tony Head!

Oookay. *nods* A yes or no answer won't spoil anything for me. No is no, and yes is something to look forward to. Half the fun's in the guessing when. ;)

Right-o then. *nod* I'll be on the lookout.

Ah, right. Mkay. Watching for that one too, then.

Oooh, that sounds interesting! Good choice of entertainment, too. Hasn't watched the show, yet, but has Heard Things

Heh, I guess, but there are certain things which are worth being completely in the dark about. :) But if you want... yes, Lindsey comes back. Won't say when or how, of course. I guess I was just hesitant because I had absolutely NO idea that he'd be back, and neither did most of fandom - they kept it incredibly under wraps until the moment he appeared. And honest to god, I was screaming and dancing around the room. ^^

Just got home from the meet-up, and it was pretty fun... felt kind of awkward because I was the youngest there by at least 10 years and I was one of only 3 women there (so it's a bit of an experience being a young vaguely sexually confused woman in a group of 35+ yr old gay men, lol). So much for meeting cute young girls. ^^;; Oh well. They were very nice and welcoming, though, and we chatted about various stuff inc. sci fi over dinner. Then watched the first 2 eps of Merlin, which are... about as cheesy and historically inaccurate and silly as I'd heard, but entertaining for all of that. And the flirting between Merlin and Arthur really is ridiculous even in the first ep, lol. Arthur: "Merlin, there's... something about you." One of the guys watching: "I'm strangely attracted to you..." LOL.

Okay, fair enough. Like I said, knowing he does is enough for me. I'm sure I'll scream and dance as well, when the time comes.

Ah, but they tried to make you feel welcome, and you'll feel more comfortable the next time. It's always kind of weird meeting new people. :) I guess you'll have to find cute girls elsewhere, though. They probably go to cons. Sounds like Merlin's as amusing as I'd heard.
