I GOT MY COMPUTER!! YAYZ!!! *runs around happily* I'm busy downloading and installing and putting my files on and shit... will all take awhile. But it's shiny and awesome. :)

...Now I've just got to figure out how to pay for it. o.o

LOL, indeed. Actually wish I could use my Mastercard then pay that off right away, because then I'd get the points... ^^;

The sad thing is, some people actually think that way.

Lol, true enough... I try to only use it when I know I have the money to pay it off quickly/right away, or when I need something big that I'll need some time to pay off (ie my airline tickets - had to be bought asap, but the money from the gov't that I was going to use ($1300 income tax refund FTW) hadn't arrived yet. Came last week, though, so was able to pay it off completely. Yayz.). And I tend to use it a fair amount for big-ish things so I get the points, then just pay it off right away. ^^ But yeah... gotta be careful! Only so much I can do with a $2000 limit though, I suppose...

In the future, we need to copy Star Trek and eliminate money altogether.

LOL, don't they have some form of money? Never seen the show, really (yeah yeah, I'm a bad SF fan...), but how can they operate with no money? o.o

Anyway, though, yeah - too bad it isn't going to happen, because really, what would replace it in this day and age? Besides maybe Communism, and we all saw how well that's worked out. ;) Maybe we should go back to the old barter system, eh?

Human civilization has advanced beyond the need for wealth and material possessions, freeing people from the confines of trying to make ends meet, thereby allowing them to pursue their own goals (exploration, thirst for knowledge, drive to innovate, art, etc). For things like food and material possessions, they have a Replicator.

I've seen economic systems rise and fall in an online RPG. In the end bartering died and vanilla in-game currency took over. Living virtual societies are quite fascinating, actually.

There's nothing that's going to replace money in my opinion, because for one thing, the value of something is always going to be measured in terms of dollars and cents on at least some level. Secondly, I can't fathom it being possible to shift the global economy to something that's not money, like a barter system; money is just so ingrained into our civilization. You'd have a better chance at implementing gun control in the United States. It isn't gonna happen. >.>
