lgbtfest prompts

Well, I just quite effectively passed an entire class watching a movie I've already seen by typing up prompts for lgbtfest. ^^ Here's what I've come up with so far, most of those I worked out on the bus. I really want to submit a Jack Harkness/Jack Sparrow one, because I've wanted to see more of that (or ANY of it) written for ages, but can't really think of a way to make it legitately about LGBT issues and not just about two hot guys having sex. XD XD Any ideas?? Something about how they both have fluid sexualities and recognize that in each other. Suppose I could throw in something about how others (at the time, or the Doctor & Rose if it's during DW) react to them.

*checks clock* 8 more minutes... I'm not actually sure if I've seen this part of the movie. Might have only seen part of it... oh wells. Not like there's a test on this or anything. ^^ Though it is quite interesting. It's called Forbidden Love and is a documentary about lesbians in the 20s-40s or something. About the difficulties in coming to terms with their sexualities, coming out, getting involved in the hidden gay scene back then...

Anyway, spread around the word about lgbtfest - it's an awesome looking fest, and I can't wait to see what comes out of it (some of the prompts submitted make me bounce with excitement!). Fun though the more shallow slash is, it'll be great to see some stories that really dig into the issues of sexuality and whatnot.

Well, you could do something along the lines of "Bottoms Up" where they meet and just sort of talk about things. Something to bring up/in might be Norrington's reactions at various stages, or Elizabeth's.

Hmm, how's this? Jack S meets Jack H in a pub. Both are feeling the effects of their alcohol of preference. They have been accompanied by one or two friends, who are off doing the things one does in pubs, and can be selected from the POTC, DW, and possibly Torchwood casts. These characters wander in and out of the story, and part or most of the fic is the Jacks commenting on how they see themselves in relationship to these people, rating their hotness/snogability, and how said people react to them. This gradually evolves into the same topics applied to each other, which could conceivably gradually evolve into snogging...?

Or Jack Sparrow + Fountain of Youth + slightly illegible ventures brings him to the attention of the Torchwood Institute, where he is seen as a fine addition to the team and then starts to inadvertently break up Harkness' established relationships.

Hmm... I like both, but I'm not sure if they'd fit in with the challenge, which is expressly about exploring LGBT issues (not just cute guys snogging *grin*). I'd need to figure out a way to emphasize their sexual identities, either how they define themselves or how others react to them. With some tweaking that could be worked into your ideas. :) I really like the second one - that'd just be FUN. *grin* I also thought of one awhile ago, after reading your idea, where they hook up in the 18th century, then Jack S. gets the fountain of youth and meets up with Jack H. again 200+ years later. They recognize each other, stuff happens. Possibly something where they continue to hook up throughout over the course of the next however many years, negotiating the varying norms and ideas about sexuality as they go. Could be fun, but also bittersweet. :)

Oh, I'm not saying the fic would be about snogging, though. That would just be an optional closing perk. *grins* The whole talking about people and reactions thing would be where the identity stuff would come up and would likely constitute most of the story. So yes, that would be where the tweaking would come in. I was mostly thinking out loud anyway. :)

I like the 200-year hooking up idea too. Could be fun. Or even every century, 'cause then you'd get the "there is no gay," the "there is gay, but it's Wrong and Immoral," and "there is gay, and it's totally okay, mostly" before diving into whatever you think the future would hold.

Oh dear, bad thought... What would Jack Sparrow have worn in the 80s? ^^; Or (oh no) how would he fit into the Firefly verse? I can just see a Mal/Jack faceoff... *worried*
