Wow, there's going to be a Sonic RPG... Makes me nostalgic, and even kinda intrigued. :) It's for DS, though, so I doubt I'll ever get to play it (a part of me still can't quite wrap my head around the concept of Sonic on Nintendo... 10+ years ago when I was heavy into Sonic there was a pretty big Sega/Nintendo divide, and until I got into RPGs I was firmly on the Sega side. Heh. So long ago... how things have changed. ^_^).

It's amazing how crazy-popular the DS is in Japan. It's pretty much a fashion trend now; everyone has one. I don't think any other platform has ever come close to its popularity.

Once DQIX hits the shelves, that country is going to go silent.

Huh, didn't realize it was that popular... I kinda want one for some games, but want a PSP for others. And really, considering how many games I have for the PS2 to finish... ^^;

Haha, so true. XD

Oh yeah, I saw Prison Break - enjoyed it quite a bit. As usual things start to go almost right then promptly fall apart. :( Poor Michael, he can't catch a break.. (not to mention Alex - yowch)

Yeah - 20 million total units sold in Japan, and 53 million worldwide, as of September 2007. Last I heard it was over 30 million in Japan now, which is about a quarter of its population. I never really understood why it's so popular, but I guess gimmicks and affordability draw people in, and the software follows those numbers.

Considering that the PS2 has done 120 million units worldwide in 7 years, I wouldn't be surprised if the DS eventually surpasses it (it has done almost half that in 4 years).

I prefer the PSP overall. It's a lot more flexible in what it can do, which appeals to me (e.g., sticking SNES emulators on it, iTouch features, Internet, etc). But it doesn't have that many interesting games - I can only count 4 that interest me.

Anyway, I really liked the general, or was he a warden? It's shame that he had to die. At least we got to see Susan be tortured. >.> One of the things that has become evident to me this season, is that we always eventually find ourselves back at Square 1; it's almost as if the show hasn't progressed at all. Every time the protagonists get somewhere, they're pushed back and have to start over.

Bioware's making it, right? Yes, it looks like. That's going to be an interesting direction from which to make a franchise-based RPG like this.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how they make it into an RPG... though considering how many story-based things there were based on the original games (namely the comics, also the tv shows) I suppose it kinda makes sense. I don't know anything about Bioware, though - what kind of games do they normally make?

They make RPGs very much in the North American PC tradition -- large amounts of character customization, extensive conversation trees with dialogue options for 'good' and 'evil' characters, optional romance subplots, nominally realtime battles that you can pause at any time to give orders in, etc. Very well-done if you like that sort of thing.

Well-known titles include the Baldur's Gate games, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and the recent Mass Effect, which I want to play desperately but which, alas, is an X-Box 360 exclusive.

Ahh, them. Okay yeah, I'm familliar with those games those have never played them. Interesting, I wonder if it'll be a game like that, then? I would've preferred a more Japanese-style RPG, just because that's what I'm familliar with and whatnot. Oh wells, it's on DS, anyway, so I'll likely never get a chance to play it. ^^;

Baldur's Gate II was phenomenal. BioWare is probably the best Western RPG developer. Although I'm somewhat curious as to how well the Sonic source material can be translated into an RPG, both from a story standpoint and from a gamplay standpoint. I suspect that it'll still have some sort of a platforming element.

I've heard those games are great, yeah. I've never really had an interest in them, but maybe someday... i thought they were often online games? Or maybe I'm wrong..

The screencaps seem to show Sonic running through loops and stuff on the 'world map' area, so yeah, probably some platforming aspects. There's probably plenty of possibility for story - after all, they got a 100+ issues comic series out of it, plus a few TV shows. Based on the screencaps it looks like it'll incorporate rings in some way, but other than that it's hard to tell about the gameplay. It showed their portraits lined up with HP/other stat bars, so that sounds RPG-ish.

They're open-ended, in the sense that they're designed to allow you to immerse yourself into the world; you are the main character, and control how he or she behaves, and the direction the story proceeds in at all turns. Whereas in JRPGs, you don't really have much control over anything.

They're single-player games, but with online capability. You can create private (and resumable) games with your friends.

Yeah, I mainly wonder about how they'll pull off the gameplay. I wonder what kind of character progression system they'll use, and how deep the equipment system will be.
