I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.

3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.

And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

OMFG

HOW IN THE FUCK DID I GET AN A- AND A+ IN MY TWO WINTER-ONLY COURSES.

WHAT THE FUCK

(giddy)

I was honestly expecting like, not even B+s.

Either there are some sick bell curves at play here, or my instructors totally disregarded my midterms. I didn't care before, but now I'm going to go find out how the fuck this happened once the semester begins.

DUDE, awesome. :) Congrats!!

Want to do something, like for real, this weekend? ^^ Sunday? QoS is still on, or else there are tons of other good movies our right now. I also realized that at the rate we're going, my belated birthday and your birthday are going to overlap... heh. Any update re: hockey? And btw, if you haven't had a chance to get me a present yet, I'm vaguely planning to order some stuff on Amazon (namely, Dr. Horrible), so you can just chip into that if you want... also, any requests for yourself? I have one thing in mind, but it's just a kinda small and silly thing. ^^

Er, now I feel all embarrassed. I didn't have anywhere to vent at 4:00 am other than LJ. >.>

Yeah, early Sunday would work. I also want to see The Spirit and the Curious Case of Benjamin Button, so it would be good to get Quantum of Solace out of the way (finally).

As for hockey, I haven't looked yet.

I start classes on Monday, so bring your library card to the movie.

I have nothing in mind for what I want for my birthday. Yet, anyway.

Aww, don't be embarassed! Celebrating and/or venting is what LJ is FOR.

Lesse, QoS is on at Scotiabank Theatre at 1:20. How does that sound?

Will do.

Yeah, that's fine. I can just meet you there if you don't want to come down to North Van before.

Sure, yeah. Mom's planning to go into town, I know, so we'll prob both be taking over the water taxi at some point in the morning... I'll let you know for sure later. I'd say we meet round 1:00, though? Or earlier if you want. Either way we can wander around downtown a bit as well, hang out... it's been awhile. o.o

Yeah, we could go to that comic store and you might be able to find something you like. Or after the movie. Whatever works.

Do instructors generally use bell curves at UBC? I know my Ecology course was graded on a curve, but I'm not sure about the others. How common are they?

Date: 2009-01-03 06:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com
I'm not sure... I think so, but not much in Arts afaik. Seems to be more common in Science, so yeah, it's possible. I hear about it, anyway... don't know how common it is, though, sorry.

I don't know how it is in Arts, but in all of my courses the class averages in all of my courses were <70%. Maybe the instructors apply a curve just to increase the averages so it doesn't reflect poorly on them that most of their students are nearly failing. >.> Were the class averages generally higher in Arts?

Date: 2009-01-04 05:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com
Hmm. I don't know.. I think the averages were around the same? To be honest, I never really paid attention to that kinda thing.

Getting worried bout tomorrow, but I'll let you know in the morning. Just read that there are snow and wind warnings for tomorrow, so... -_- Gah. I need to get the fuck out of here, I'm going stir crazy and have a pounding headache from being inside all day. *sigh*

Ah yeah, it's looking pretty bad out there right now, but it stopped snowing. It's supposed to rain tonight, which will make things worse. >.>

You should open up a window and let the cool air circulate.

That's good... I'm too lazy to look outside and see what it's like here right now. ^^

I did earlier, and it helped a bit. Also walked over to the video store to get a chocolate bar, mainly just for the excuse to go outside. ^^

Huzzah

I have presents for you now. That was expensive. >.> Guess you aren't getting anything at the comic store from me now. :D

Do you care about wrapping? Guys can't wrap. It's a biological deficiency. I can do it if you like tearing the shit open, but I promise it's gonna be ugly. >.>

Also, could I get my game and book back tomorrow?

Date: 2009-01-04 12:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com
"That was expensive". *snort* Classy. XD

Lol, whatever, I don't really care I guess... also don't care if it looks like shit. ^^ Did you know there are now paper-wrapping places men can go to where they're wrap presents badly so their wives think they did it themselves? Hilarious.

Haha, forgot about those. -_- Yeah, sure thing.

Not sure my schedule re: tomorrow - depends a bit on the snow. But prob getting the 11:00 water taxi, so I'll be downtown by ~12. When/where do you want to meet? I'm gonna have lunch first, so we could just meet at the theatre round 12:30-1 or whatever then wander after, or... I dunno.

From: [identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com
What can I say. I'm a classy guy.

Yeah, admittedly, I've used one of those places before. >.>

Yeah, the weather is supposed to get a lot worse tonight and tomorrow. I'll go to the theater and hopefully get there around 1. I'll keep in touch via cell phone. If by chance you don't end up going because of the weather or whatever, let me know as soon as possible.

From: [identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com
Lol, what, to get them wrapped nicely or fake-badly? Never really understood the latter... I mean, if guys are bad at it anyway, why not just do it badly themselves rather than pay someone else to do it badly? If you're going to pay someone to do it, then might as well have it done well. ^^ Then again, some guys are clearly lazy. XD

Yeah okay, will do. I'll prob be going so long as the taxi is running, just not sure if my mom's coming as well as she'd planned. But so long as I can go I will, even if she's not going in.

To get them wrapped nicely. I'd never pay someone to wrap it badly; I can do that myself. But I wouldn't, because I'm classy, so quality is everything.

I'm also lazy.

Lol. I dunno, I like wrapping. :) I'm terrible at it, but it's kinda satisfying... and I like trying to do it well. ^^

You could make a Youtube video of me doing this. It would score millions of views due to how hilarious it would be.

I'd be the next Star Wars kid, maybe.

Dude, this is sad. XD It's not that difficult... you don't have to make the ends into exact triangles. ;) God knows I never can, they're always lopsided...

From: [identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com
No way. I have to measure everything. First I have to calculate the surface area of the gift, so I can figure out how much wrapping paper I need. Then using angular calculations, I can pinpoint exactly where the gift needs to be on the wrapping paper. Then I need triangles and protractors to figure out the precise folds.
