FF ramblings

I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.
3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.
And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

Date: 2006-11-28 02:03 am (UTC)Prison Break is over here. I look forward to 3 hours from now when we can discuss. XD When's January going to be here?? I'm glad that they reduced the break, anyway - January's better than March...

Date: 2006-11-28 02:18 am (UTC)I already kind-of know what happens in the finale (go and read the Zap2it description now so you see how absolutely fucking stupid they are).

Date: 2006-11-28 02:25 am (UTC)Read the description; won't say how spoilery that actually is for the episode... we'll speak at 12/9. XD But yeah, in general that's a pretty stupid and spoilery description. I would've been pissed off as hell if I'd read that before. I think that's the official Fox-released description, though; I've seen it other places since.

Date: 2006-11-28 02:37 am (UTC)Coming from FOX? That changes a lot. Now that description's stupidity doesn't really surprise me. :/

Date: 2006-11-28 02:42 am (UTC)Presents are fun - you get shit for free!
no, i'm not materialistic. *cough*
Haha, yeah. Typical FOX..

Date: 2006-11-28 02:46 am (UTC)Yeah, you're the most materialistic person I know. <3 Speaking of which, what do you want for your birthday? ;p

Date: 2006-11-28 02:56 am (UTC)Honestly, I'm finding it harder to think of presents that I want, too... I'm trying to make up my Christmas list for this year, and I'm torn. Part of me wants to use Christmas as an excuse to start filling in my Farscape and Oz DVD collections, but then I can't decide which I want. And then I think, well, I have burned copies of them... but I still want to own them. I dunno. -_- And I'm torn between asking for Disgaea 2 and FFXII - kinda want both, but think I want FFXII more at the minute. Otoh, Disgaea 2 will become rare soonish.. I don't know. ;__;
Okay, okay, so as dilemmas go, it's not a very big one. XD But I'm having a hard time deciding...
Not sure about my birthday. Most of the things I want are expensive. o.o Am considering asking for a few monthes worth of a paid LJ account... to test it out and decide if it'd be worth paying for each month. Cause more icons! And custom layouts and moodthemes! Tempting... anyway, I'll think about it.

Date: 2006-11-28 03:05 am (UTC)At least you have some ideas. ;p Up until the point I decided I wanted VP1, it was like, I don't want anything. And really besides that, I still don't want anything. :/
I think you'd get more entertainment out of FFXII. But Disgaea 2 is shorter, so you might get more immediate enjoyment out of that. But then again, if it's anything like the first one, 3/4 of the enjoyment the game has to offer will probably be character building. And that's something that isn't for everyone, like me.

Date: 2006-11-28 04:06 am (UTC)Hmmm... I can't decide. I'm sure I'll like Disgaea 2, considering that it's pretty similar (mostly the same, actually) as the first one; otoh, the fact that it IS pretty much the same is a little bit of a turn off. Overall I do really want it, but at the minute with all the talk about FFXII I really want to play that... and it IS FF, after all. :) And I don't really want to wait 1+ years for it to drop to $30, even though I told myself I'd do that... course, either way it's not like I actaully spent much time playing these days. Still haven't finished the games I got for the last two Christmases! Though I suspect that either of those games would hook me in sufficiently that I'd spent most of term 2 playing it... I remember when I first got my PS2 and FFX in first year, I spent all of January and Februrary completely hooked to it. Amazing I got any work done at all. o.o Harder to do that in 4th year. ^^ (and yet, I still find time for TV and Internet... changing 'priorities', I guess)

Date: 2006-11-28 05:48 am (UTC)If you have to get one, get Disgaea 2 (If you're worried about it becoming rare). Pick up a used copy of FFXII for $30, or less, in a few months.

Date: 2006-11-28 02:50 pm (UTC)Yeah, you're probably right... I just suspect that when Christmas comes I'll be wanting to play FFXII more at the moment. ^^ Eh, I'll figure it out. I probably am better off asking for Disgaea 2 before it starts going for $100 on Ebay. -_-

Date: 2006-11-30 04:42 am (UTC)Either way, I'd probably say go for FFXII... depends on how much you enjoyed the first two Xenosagas (and if you haven't played them, I really don't think that being a completist is enough justification to buy it instead of something you'll actually play, but that's just me. XD). I think FFXII has got better reviews in general, though - plus, it's FF! :)
