Wes and Lilah... the most complex, fasincating, morally ambiguous, dark, extremely passionate and sexy, angsty pairing evah. ^^ I didn't care much about them when I was watching through s4 - it wasn't until I think Habeas Corpses when I was like "hey, dont' break up!" and realized I'd come to love them together... Then of course Calvary happened. ;_; Anyway, suffice to say, I find W/L to be not only the hottest pairing ever, but also extremely interesting and quite tragic. I think they made a good match - she understood and accepted him, in a way that I'm not sure anyone else ever could - certainly Fred couldn't, which is part of why that pairing is so doomed (that and the fact that they have zero chemistry). They may have hated each other at first, but it was evident that esp by Habeas Corpses at least Lilah had come to care about him - and his reactions in Salvage show that he too had come to care for her.
And really, the line that sums everything about them up quite neatly:
"It's not always about holding hands" - Wesley, 4X16 "Players"
Fred doesn't seem to get this - their relationship wasn't about happiness and flowers and prancing through the fields holding hands and calling each other love. It was hard, it wasn't always (ever) nice and happy, it was full of hatred and passion, they used each other shamelessly, at least at the beginning... yet, they cared about each other. Lilah certainly loved him, and it's up for debate on whether or not he reciprocated.
And hell, either way, they were damned pretty together. *ahem* <--- shallow moment.
