Man, I haven't made a post-episode post in ages, have I? But I wanted to do so for this episode, just to say - GABRIEL. NO. :( :( It was wonderful to see him again (I'd heard ages back that Richard Speight Jr would be returning, and when I saw the promo for this ep I figured it'd be this one), but am sad that it'll be his last one. My love for the Trickster rose exponentially when he turned out to be Gabriel - massive retconning, sure, but so awesome! I adored the scene with him and Lucifer at the end. Both Richard and Mark Pellegrino played it so well, and Gabe kinda broke my heart a bit. I love that in spite of everything he's done to the boys, in the end he sides with them and humanity. Also, I love Mark Pellegrino being all kick-ass and covered in blood and fucking hardcore. I'm really starting to like him a lot as an actor, between SPN and Lost. Should find out what else he's done.
Though I gotta say, I don't really get how/why he's so much more powerful than the various gods? I mean, he's just a (fallen) angel, after all. It kinda gave the impression that all those other gods are much weaker than the Judeo-Christian God and the angels and whatnot, which I though was rather unfortunate. Though I did love getting to see the other gods, a lot. I've been wondering if SPN would acknowledge the existence of gods from other religions or if it had made God the only, well, god. Which kinda made me sad, that the show would go the monotheistic only-Christianty-exists road. So yeah, definitely excited to see other gods, even if they ended up kinda... pathetically weak next to Lucifer.
Also, Gabriel called Lucifer 'Lucy'. He wins the day, just for that.
Dammit, I didn't realize how much I enjoyed the Trickster until he was dead. Especially after that last scene with Lucifer, because really. So awesome. Seeing him with the blackened wings on the floor made me sad. :(
And I almost forgot to mention this, but on a more cheerful note: Porn! Gabriel with pornstache! Gabriel passing important information to the boys via porn! And telling Dean to guard it with his life! Much love all around. And looks like we have a quest of sorts for our final 3 eps of the season - I'm having horcrux flashbacks. But yeah, it's good to have some kind of attainable goal for the boys now, to really feel like they're moving towards something specific rather than a general "figure out a way to kill Lucifer". Though I can't help but think that just locking him up in Hell again isn't going to solve much in the long run. Because what if he gets out again?
I was so hoping for Gabriel riding around in the back of the Impala for an episode or two, helping out the boys. Woe. I will miss him. :(
