Yeah, Shaw's PVR is really bare-bones, but it does what a PVR should do and that's good enough for me. Though I don't think you can swap the hard drive out for another, which would be a nice feature.
I don't think the subscription for TiVo is mandatory--it's just for their program guide, no? You can still record and stuff without it provided that you konw the times everything comes on. Or something like that, anyway.
