Clunking/clicking noise usually means that the laser is misaligned and is struggling to read the disc. (As a side note, if you ever hear your computer click on boot it usually means that the hard drive reader head is about to die; in other words, get to backing your shit up fast.)
Lens might be dirty, also.
I heard that playing DVD movies on the thing isn't a good idea. Movies have the disc spinning non-stop for a period of several hours while games only spin it when data needs to be read/loaded.
