Aaand, finally got to rewatch "Signs and Portents" tonight! Good stuff. Ridiculous amount of foreshadowing. And it's taken me 8+ years to realize that Ed Wasser is pretty damned sexy. How did I never notice? o.o I mean yes his hair is silly and high, but his evil little smirk... yum. Also, evil and awesome and I'd forgotten how much I loved him. One of my favourite villains, up there with Scorpius (who remains the greatest, of course).
Ooh, the amount of foreshadowing in this episode... The way JMS plotted out the entire series beforehand is remarkable, and this episode really showcases it - stuff happened in this episode that wouldn't pay off for years. Among them, of course, the shot of the station being destroyed - correct me if I'm wrong, but is that actually the exact shot they used in the finale? I'm not sure, but either way it clearly foreshadows the eventual 'destruction' of the station, albeit not in the way anyone would have suspected. :)
Anyway, I got a huge kick out of every Morden scene, which were far more interesting to me than that "omg raiders are attacking B5!" main storyline. Though I liked how all the storylines came together in this ep - no b-plot, they were all interconnected by the end. But he was awesome, and all the foreshadowing! "What do you want?" "To have it all back, the way it used to be." Oh Londo. *sigh* It was wonderful watching them meet for the first time and seeing the event that ultimately kicked off Londo's downfall. Also got a big kick out of the two scenes with Morden and Kosh - weeee. And Garibaldi dropping a comment about how Kosh's encounter suit got damaged, after we saw them meet in a corridor. Knowing that there were two Shadows behind Morden that entire ep, I presume anyway, is creepy as heck. And first shot of a Shadow ship! Oh yes. :) I might have cheered.
(but seriously, Ed Wasser is hot! How did I never notice?? I guess because when I was initially into it I was younger and thought he looked too old, I dunno... but he's really pretty young, compared to some of the main cast members *checks IMDB* Oh yeah, he was only 30 or 31 when this was filmed...) Aaaanyway. Shallow thoughts aside. ;) Good stuff. One of the better eps of s1, though the entire season really is pretty mediocre overall. Or maybe it's just starting to feel dated... I don't know, I have a huge fondness and a bit of a blindspot for the show, plus I know it gets really good later. Watching it again, now that I'm older and have seen a lot more TV and at least a bit more SF, it's interesting to see my feelings about it. I think I'm just looking at it more realistically now, as an excellent but still flawed show - in the past I tended to put it on a huge pedastal. Still think it's brilliant, though, in many ways. Can't beat that 5-year arc and all that foreshadowing. :) Just have to look past the slightly dated feel of it and the sub-par SFX (not to mention the supremely shitty DVD quality - seriously, wtf? White spots across the image, and it's occasionally blurry... though maybe that's just how it originally was; it never looked very good quality to begin with that I recall, probably due to the small budget the show had). Thank god the writing made up for all that. :)
*checks which episodes are coming up* Oh god, TKO then Grail... aren't those considered to be two of the absolute worst episodes of the series? Oh joy. -_- But then a few decent eps, then Voice in the Wilderness and Babylon Squared, so lots of good stuff... then season 2! Which had some mediocre eps, but also some very good ones. So yay. :)
Bed soon, I suppose... sigh. I still haven't posted about the cruise, have I? -_- Laaazy...
