*looks around f-list* Damn, everyone's so happy and excited and pleased and I'm... I dunno. I really really desperately wanted to love tonight's episode and was so looking forward to it, and I'm feeling kinda flat right now. It was pretty good. Maybe I'll like it more when I think about it more. I dunno. I guess I was expecting too much.
I just... I guess I expected it to be darker. Possibly this is the result of having just read
balefully's absolutely spectacular post s2 fic "Fine Wonderful Things", which just captured Sam and Dean's mindsets at the end of s2 so perfectly - especially Sam. She wove an incredible tapestry of angst and desperation and pain and grief and anger, and I just didn't feel like that came out in tonight's episode and I was expecting it to. I suppose I got my hopes up after "In My Time of Dying" last season, and then "All Hell Breaks Loose pt2", and this just didn't live up to that.
Damn, I'm sounding like a spoilsport. XD I think I'm in the minority here... it was good, and I enjoyed it fine, but about half way through I was thinking "isn't there going to be more?" I was expecting something epic and tragic and beautiful like "In My Time of Dying", and got just a fairly decent typical episode. Not bad by any means, and it set up the rest of the season nicely, but I wanted more. Too greedy, I guess. ;p (we didn't see Greed, did we? Pity. I did like Pride, though, heh.)
Anyway. The good... lesse. I liked the beginning stuff, some nice humour and stuff between the brothers. Loved that Dean was having sex while Sam was stuck sitting out in the Impala, lol. And of course loved Sam walking in on Dean. Too classic. XD
Love loved Bobby, as always. I hope we see lots more of him this season, because he's awesome. I loved him yelling at Tamara (who I rather liked, incidentally, though I did kinda want to smack her a few times. She has potential, though, if they decide to bring her back).
No thoughts on Ruby yet. She didn't exactly do much... not sure how much I like the fact that she's sooper-powerful and oh so much better than the boys, but I guess it's nice to see a competent female hunter. I hope her and Bela (Bella?) end up being good characters; I really want to like them, because we need more female characters on the show desperately, but we'll see...
The whole 'seven deadly sins' thing was pretty nifty, I guess. I like the idea that they are actually real demons, pretty cool. :)
And... I don't know, it's too late at night to go into any analysis of the final scene between Sam and Dean. I think I'd need to see it again. I didn't like it at first, but more I think about it the more I realize it's classic both of them... of course Dean's hiding any fear he may have behind jokes and a determination to make the best out of his last year and enjoy life. And of course Sam's freaking out and fed up with his brother for being, well, Dean. Heh. I'll have to think on it overnight... right now, bed.
