Yeah, use a US proxy. It should work, but I wouldn't expect the speed to be great (probably better than what you're getting now though). I wouldn't recommend it though, as you won't know who owns the proxy server you decide to use, and you won't know what sort of information about you is being logged. It can be a real violation of your privacy.
There's always Youtube (bleh), though. I'll try to dig around and see if there are any alternatives that allow Canadians to stream TV episodes. There should be a site like that out there.
