Oh god, I know, some of those comments about how great America is and how PROUD they are of being AMERICAN... ai yi yi. It also frightens me that they think this is the way of the future... everyone having guns. Cause yeah, THAT would help... I don't see how issuing a handgun to everyone who's of age would help the situation in any way - isn't that exactly what this is...? Giving everyone a gun just means that there will be more guns and more stupid people carrying guns around everywhere. I can sort of almost understand that they want guns to protect themselves, but really it's a self-perpetuating prophecy... more guns=more violence=more guns to protect themselves. It's doomed to failure, no matter what the intentions of the people carrying them.
Really, the problem all goes back to the whole 'right to bear arms' thing which, after all, dates back to the Revolution. When bearing arms, you know, made SENSE. But that was over 200 damned years ago, and the same logic shouldn't really apply now...
The last thing is horrifying, but depressingly typical... these are the same sorts of people who don't believe in any kind of birth control because it could lead to promiscuity. And the same kind of people who are staunchy against sex ed because it will make teenagers have sex (which is amusingly ridiculous when you think of what sex ed for us was like... "if you get sex you could get x or y disease and DIE so DON'T DO IT". *eyeroll* Or even worse, the doctors/pharmacists who refuse to give women the Pill because it goes against their 'beliefs'.
Speaking of HPV, Mom was telling me about that the other day and said I should get those shots... it's like $450 or something and stupidly isn't covered by medical, evidently (even though it should be considered necessary). It is remarkable, though, that they have something like that which actually prevents cancer...
