FF ramblings

I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.
3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.
And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

Date: 2007-05-01 04:55 am (UTC)Okay, whenever you're free. Do you know what you're doing tomorrow yet? I have a dentist appt on Wednesday at 12, but free after. If we do go play pool that day, I can pop up to the comic store on Lonsdale and get Buffy s8 issue 3.

Date: 2007-05-05 02:18 am (UTC)Watching ep14 right now... hoooly shit. I knew it was coming, (thanks to the net, heh), but Evil!Sam? Daamn. I presume he's possessed? By the Demon, I wonder...? Or maybe it's more complicated. Mmm, can't wait to find out. XD The scene where he tries to convince Dean to kill him (though I suppose that was all a trick...) was heartbreaking; just the idea of Dean having to kill Sam is horrifying and I felt so bad for Dean when he said he'd rather die. I was thinking about it last night, trying to imagine what Dean would go through if he had to kill Sam, and it depressed the hell outta me. ^^ It would utterly destroy him; I wouldn't consider it at all out of character if he turned the gun on himself right after. Yikes.
Anyway, fortunately that will never happen seeing as they're both the main characters and they can't kill off one of their leads. XD This show really is getting better and better... this season is overall much better than s1, imo, though I enjoyed s1. S1 was more fluffy fun and fighting demons; this season is much more character based and darker. And I like it. ^__^
I'm supposed to be doing work for my mom right now. -_- Shit. We're also painting my room while Mom's away; we got the horrid little wallpaper strip torn off earlier today (it took forever.. yeesh).

Date: 2007-05-05 02:53 am (UTC)Close to 2.15 now. It's filler, but I thought it was pretty funny. And, I think, it opens up a new plot-thread for the future.

Yeah, I think it's one of the better shows on TV. But I think it's overshadowed a bit, partly because of the tough time slot it's in, and also because there are probably a lot of people that pass it off as just another teen horror show or something; being on The CW doesn't really help its image. >.> The CW executives said that they're very happy with how it's doing in its timeslot, but you know how fast those people can change their minds if the money starts going down.. Before the start of every season I half-expect to see Supernatural on the "dropped show" list. :\
Oh well. The producer said he'd be wrapping it all up at the end of Season 2 in such a way that it's conclusive but still open for a Season 3 (which pretty much has been given the green light).
And yeah, I like Season 2 a lot more than Season 1. The characters carried the show through the first season, so it was good that they were the focus during the second. Although in my opinion, the team needs to get a new focus for Season 3 because I think another season of brotherly emo stuff will start to drag a bit.

Date: 2007-05-05 03:01 am (UTC)Hmm, if he's wrapping the storyline up in s2, I wonder if that means they're wrap up the whole Demon storyline, not to mention the Sam storyline...? Wonder what they'll do in s3, then. And yeah, I agree that they'll need to find another tack for s3 because there's really only so much brotherly angst they can do (though I'd be happy for more, heh). They'll need to find another interesting storyline to move things forward, and maybe do some new things with both characters though I'm not sure what. Introducing more secondary characters may help, though not sure if I want that...

Date: 2007-05-05 05:11 am (UTC)I think they'll wrap part of the Demon storyline, at least. I think it'll be another one of those "Yay, we won~" *five minutes later* "Oh shit."-kind of cliffhanger endings. Kind of like Angel's series finale: It was conclusive, but it also ended in a way that Joss could have easily written another season.
And then there's that whole virus thing that was in Croatoan. I really don't think they'll touch on that in the finale. Then there might be something to work with because of 2.15.
I don't think the angst will ever go away, but I'm sure they'll tone it down a lot. Maybe back to Season 1's level. And I think they will add a new main character or maybe even two. I was thinking that they were going to do that with the bar owner's daughter (I forgot their names), but they haven't appeared as often as I thought they would.

Date: 2007-05-08 11:36 pm (UTC)Check out this list: http://www.list4all.com/kowak/ This guy is selling a ton of games, including lots of RPGs. Might find something of interest; I'm thinking of getting Phantom Brave from him for $15 and he has Lunar 1 up as 'offer me' so I'm going to make an offer of $20 and see what happens. XD And no, sorry, I checked for Valkyrie Profile and he doesn't have it. Pity. He does have Vagrant Story for $20, though, and I've heard that's a decent game... dunno.

Scroll down, I'm sure you can figure out where to. XD If this is for real, you should definitely buy it... obviously. I can't believe they'd actually be selling it that cheap and have a copy of it in stock. o.o Anyway, check it out. I'm going to go poke around for other games.

Date: 2007-05-08 11:47 pm (UTC)If you do buy stuff off him, get me the above. I'll give you the money whenever I see you next. Legend of Mana is also tempting as hell, but I already played it on my computer awhile ago, and plus, he wants $45 for it. >.>

128 Ikaruga GC offer me Available 1
Also, offer him $5 for that. If he says no, go up to $10. :o

Hm.. When I turned on my TV after I came home, the TV listings were full-screen.

Date: 2007-05-08 11:50 pm (UTC)I shouldn't be doing this... I have no money. -_- Def going to ask about PB; not sure about Lunar 1 but it'd be nice to own a copy out of principle. I'll ask if it comes in the original big box with all the extra stuff. What did come with that, anyway? I want to ask him specifically about the stuff that comes with the game. There was a hard-cover manual, right? And I think a pendant?

Date: 2007-05-08 11:55 pm (UTC)The guy has La Pucelle too. Didn't you have the collector's edition of Lunar 1? I don't remember what it came with; I think a pendant, a hard-cover manual, and some other things. Oh yeah, and an OST.
