School amusement and TV meme

I'm having flashbacks to grade 2... we're starting the airline industry today in class, and we just had to fill out a map of Canada with the provinces/territories and capitals. ^^; I know most of the other students in the class aren't originally from Canada, and some came here pretty recently, so it makes sense - but I was rather amused to be doing something I learned in elementary school. ^^ So now I'm sitting here typing up this post while everyone else pores over atlases. :) Okay, so technically by the time I'm posting this it's now lunch... but anyway.

Of course, I said that then I looked up Alberta and realized that the capital is Edmonton, not Calgary. I suck. Excuse me while I go shoot myself in the head... guess grade 2 was awhile ago, heh.

Anyway, moving on...

TV Meme Day 15 - Favourite female character
Hmm, I've def got a few, but in the end I decided to go with Aeryn Sun from Farscape. Because she is an awesome, strong, and fascinating female character; definitely one of the best female characters in SF TV, imo. She's a very strong character in many different ways, and she goes through a powerful character arc over the course of the series. One of the things I love about Farscape was how it played with gender conventions, and a lot could be said about the varying ways that Aeryn and John negotiate gender. I know because I said a bunch of them in a school paper a few years back. ;) Aeryn embodies aspects of both what we think of as 'masculine' and 'feminine', as does John, and neither subscribes to the traditional male/female dichotomy. And of course, John/Aeryn is one of the greatest love stories I've ever seen on TV... so much hotness and chemistry and angst and general kicking the asses of everyone and everything in the Uncharted Territories.

Some runner-ups: Ivanova (B5); Lilah and pre-s3 Cordelia (Angel); Buffy herself of course, because she remains one of the greatest female characters ever on television...
