Supernatural fic rec: "And Something to Hunt" by [livejournal.com profile] stellabelle. Absolutely stunning. A heartbreaking and poetic look at the aftermath of season 2, this is what I want out of season 3 that I just didn't get from the premiere. Pretty much gen; there's a potential hint of Wincest at the end, but I think it could be read either way. It's fairly short, and beautifully written. Perfectly captures both boys' states of minds post season 2, and the increasing desperation and fear of Dean's impeding fate. Her imagery is so effective and evocative of Sam and Dean's journey, both physical and emotional.

Some excerpts:

(In the parking lot, as Dean tosses their bags unceremoniously in the trunk, Sam takes a mental snapshot. One for every forgettable highway motel, one for every collection of hours. At the end, if it comes to that, Sam will burn them all, every fragmented memory, till the edges curl in on themselves, collapse, and are gone.)

(Sam PoV) He wakes up one morning with this image in his brain, clear as day, as though he'd already lived it: the two of them set adrift, free, weightless. Days as numerous as the roads.

Sam keeps a list of these towns they stumble in and out of, a breathing American dictionary roadmap trapped in a notebook stuffed in a messenger bag beneath the passenger's seat.

He will never know that one sleepless night Dean finds the notebook, pages full with words and odd motel matchbooks and bar coasters, writing scribbled out and rewritten in the margins. He will never know that one sleepless night Dean reads the entire thing, this document, this testament, and, after some time passes, places it carefully back where it belongs. And Sam will think that the next day when Dean hauls him up by the shirt collar and punches him square in the jaw it is because of being stupid and almost dying in an abandoned warehouse in Fairfield, Vermont, and not because of revelations Dean is not ready for, or is, and is terrified to admit to them.

And... there are too many to quote, but those are some of my favourites.

And shit, I need to go to bed, it's 1am and I have to be up at 7:30... because Mom's bent on getting the 9am ferry *groan*. Wedding was kinda nice, but mostly just boring since I didn't know anyone, and it dragged on too long plus I couldn't eat any of the food because it was all seafood and pretty weird seafood at that, and ew. Oh well. It's wasn't particularly a traditional Chinese wedding, either, which Mom thought it was for some reason - it was pretty Western, though it did have some obvious traditional influences which were interesting to see. Anyway. Bed now...

Please dear god tell me that this is just a horrible horrible rumour... because otherwise my brain can't quite comprehend this level of stupid.
