Mar. 6th, 2006 03:36 pmHaven't said anything on the travesty that was the Oscars last night because I haven't had a chance, not to mention was too pissed off last night. I was at work for the entire thing, so had to watch it while attempting to serve people pizza. When they announced the best picture, the customer at the counter, my co-worker and I just stood there and stared in shock and horror at the screen. Of all the things I expected to happen last night, that was the last thing on my mind. I've heard little really good about Crash; some say it's 'thought provoking', most say it's heavy handed, flashy, and makes you feel good about doing your 'moral duty' by thinking about 'deep issues' like racism. Not to say that racism isn't an important issue, of course, but from what I gather the movie hits you over the head with a proverbial mallet to tell you that racism! is! bad! Evidently telling the audience exactly what to think is preferable to subtlety these days.

Still can't quite believe it. I was pretty much certain that BBM would win, but even if it didn't I wouldn't have been quite as pissed if a movie I've heard is any good had won. I might see Crash on DVD, just so I can say with some personal experience that it didn't deserve to win... And I still want to see Capote and Good Night and Good Luck, which from what I hear are both far more deserving than Crash. Someday I'll have seen all 5 Best Picture nominees before the Oscars... though after this year I've gotta say I'm pretty disillusioned with the Academy.
