I blame this fully on Riley and her infamous Pawn to Queen...
*grin* Hadn't even thought about the potential for that pairing up until then, but PtQ got me interested. There was fairly little H/S fic available back then (unlike now... O.o), and most of it was good, so I read through whatever I could find and fell in love with them... why? Many reasons. They're both intellectuals, and are both _very_ smart and very good at what they do, and they both love learning and academia - that much can be easily backed up by canon. Furthermore, Hermione's given the impression that, while, she doesn't exactly _like_ him, she does have a basic respect for his ability, and she backs him up against Ron and Harry several times (or at least refrains from openly attacking him... umm, aside from that time she set him on fire. *grin*). Either way, there is definitely potential there for her to come to respect his abilities, either through working with him on an extracurricular assignment, teaching beside him, etc etc, insert various typical H/S plots. As for Severus - I think that, while he often insults her, a part of him at least sort of respects her abilities and determination - even if he looks down on these aspects of her because she's, well, a Gryffindor. I think that, once she's older and has matured, he could come to respect her. And, once they've got the mutual respect, they slowly start to like each other, care for each other a bit, and eventually... Preferably _not_ making Sev into a sappy romantic who's lost all his darkness and angst and sarcasm and snark. Cause yeesh.
And now, bored. Got sick of playing FFX (really. truly. ^^;;), and don't want to do work cause... BLAH. *ahem* Hmm, maybe I'll sleep until dinner. :P
