Yay, just yoinked a ton of icons from [livejournal.com profile] shirozora's latest post... new default (lookit him, ain't he adorable?), and a bunch of random ones to be used at various points. ^^ I love having room for 35 icons after having only room for 6 for so long!

..yeah, that's really all I have to say in this post. :)

Yay, icons! Anderson is definitely adorable in that icon.

I'm not sure whether I like you or not right now. I watched that puppy clip earlier and realized I wanted to see fanfiction … and I'm not even interested in the fandom! Meany. *huffs off* ;)

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't he though?

ROFL. I'm a bad bad influence... heck, I got into the fandom almost solely through fanfiction, which rarely happens for me. Well, I got into Jon/Stephen through TDS/TCR, but my interest in Anderson and Keith et al came purely through fic (hell, I didn't even know who Keith was, since we don't get MSNBC up here...).

There's one AU fic based on the puppy clip right now. It's Barack/Anderson/Rahm. I'm.. slightly terrified, yet amused. Also I read it. *hides*

And I can totally provide recs, btw. XD Some which imo are just really good reads even without being in the fandom (see above, heh... I barely even knew who Anderson was beyond "that guy on CNN" until I started reading fic. GAH.)

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you're not a bad influence. You're a TERRIBLE influence. *rimshot* XD I imagine this is probably a good fandom for drawing people into through the fandom itself.

I'm not surprised, honestly. That offhand comment of about the Obamas choosing Anderson to be their puppy? Pretty much set it up, really.

Don't want recs, though. Take 'em away! XP I've got a few fics that popped up on crack_van that got my interest, but they've been relegated to my superlong To Read list so it might take awhile. (I knew Anderson as "That guy who wrote that book we keep getting cheap copies of". I wasn't even aware he was with CNN…. See what I mean about terrible influences?)

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2009-01-24 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I try my best. :)

Lol, watch me... okay, so maybe a long multi-chapter fic wasn't the best thing to rec. How bout something short and funny? Like this (http://sarken.livejournal.com/1495447.html)? Which funnily enough, I read back in June as part of [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest and recced on my LJ at the time... heh. Had no idea who Keith or Andy were the first time I read it. Or this (http://community.livejournal.com/camera3/4259.html#cutid1), which upon perusing my recent posts to find the time I know I linked to it, I discovered was actually one of the very first fics in the fandom I read since November. Heh. Short and cute.

Hmm, how much does his book cost there? For that matter where IS it? I was there awhile ago (guess you weren't working, least I didn't see you) and I couldn't find it...

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2009-01-24 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, still gotta keep trying. Read the first rec when you recced it, and tried the second when you recced it too. Also tried the second again and lost interest. Huh. I suspect maybe this fandom isn't for me?

It's in Current Events, under C for Cooper, but danged if I remember how much it is. I'll let you know tomorrow, if I remember to look when I'm there. (I work 4:15 to close Sun-Tues, and Thurs-Fri, btw.)

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2009-01-24 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, oh well, worth a try. :) I will picspam later and see if that helps. ;)

Cool, thanks.

I'm writing prompts for Porn Battle VII (http://oxoniensis.livejournal.com/393245.html) right now and it's getting ridiculously out of hand. XD Started off with some pundit-themed ones, then Tony Stark started getting involved (Tony/Anderson! And Tony/Rahm Emanuel (with prompt 'international incident' which for whatever reason is making me giggle insanely)! gah!), and now Jack Harkness is getting in on the action (still want my Jack/Tony fic, dammit...). Am now considering Jack/Rahm (Torchwood liasing with the White House! For some reason!).

...stop me. ;_;

(also went back and read the SPN/Oz fic I wrote for last year's Porn Battle V, and it wasn't half bad... go me. We'll see if any of this one's prompts inspire me, I guess.).

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think picspam will help. Looking over your shoulder at pics on New Years didn't. But feel free to try anyway, if it makes you happy. ;)

It's $14. We have one copy at the moment. Didn't check how many the other stores have.

Okay, Tony can be shipped with anyone, seriously, we know this. I'm slightly surprised you didn't go for a Tony/Jack/Rahm threesome or something. Because, y'know, international incident could mean a lot of things. ;p Did you know there's an AU Torchwood series where Torchwood is in Chicago? I think I might've mentioned it. So you could totally do a Jack/Rahm thingy… except the AU Torchwood has Tennant!Jack… Ah well.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, I was planning to do it anyway, just for kicks. ;)

Thanks for checking.

Mmm, intriguing. ;) I've actually started writing a Tony/Rahm snippet based on that prompt, because it amused me... Tony's been off blowing shit up in the Middle East or Afghanistan or somewhere and Rahm is Not Amused.

Then they have sex.

:)

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Okay then.

You're welcome. If you want a copy held for you, until you can come to get it, let me know.

Heheheh. What else are a superhero and a ballet-dancing politician going to do after an argument, honestly? Some days I think your brain is on crack. Mine too.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, no thanks, I'm good for now. :)

Well, clearly. ;) It's all laid out pretty clearly in my head; just need to write it now... Mostly it's going to involve Rahm yelling and swearing at Tony a lot. ^^

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm' seeing either Hot Make Up Sex or Tony telling Rahm to keep talking to him dirty.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Something to that effect. Well, more like Tony raising an eyebrow and saying "are you going to shut up and fuck me anytime soon or should I go make breakfast until you've worn yourself out?" (noting that Tony's in bed at the moment, having been woken up by Jarvis because Rahm's been standing at the gate yelling for the past 30 or so minutes until Tony relented and said he could come in. And which point Rahm storms into his bedroom and yells at him some more. Well probably, I haven't written that far yet. ^^). I'm also going on the assumption that they have a bit of a prior relationship, ie I think I'm going to write them meeting earlier (thinking at one of the innaugural balls, though not sure which ones Rahm was at... not even sure if he was at any of them, gotta check that), at whicih point Rahm had laid out some ground rules ("don't go blow shit up without informing us first") and then Tony gave him a blowjob. Or something.

(I like the idea of Tony telling Rahm to keep talking to him dirty, though - mind if I use that if I decide it fits? ^_^)

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That works too. And I like the ball idea. You could even have it that Rahm and/or Tony can't even remember which one…

Sure, go ahead. ;) I kind of hate how I'm inspiring you with this, though. RPF porn is so not my thing. *headdesk*

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, sorry? ;) *iz a bad influence* I've never been much into RPF, other than dabbling in Lost RPS, Jared/Jensen, and the occasional other story. And never, ever thought I'd be writing a fic about the current chief of staff of the USA. O.o Can't quite bring myself to write about Obama, though - eek. Not really into the politific side of things at all, other than Rahm, and I blame that entirely on fandom (in that I learned about him mainly through fandom and as such don't think about him in quite the same way as other political figures who I was familiar with beforehand...). -_-

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Darn right you are! :D The current political fandom is insane. The levels of glee and creativity and fangirlishness over politicians, of all people, is … scary, actually. It's really like Obama and Biden and Rahm and Michelle and all those other Very Important People have ceased to exist in the real world, and are now solely fiction. And I guess, since so many people have entered through the fandom, that's sort of true. (Now, the question is, is there suefic? Somehow I don't see there being much if any.)

Sorry, I'm being intelligent again. ^^6

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and I will remind you that you were the one who linked me to that Sarah Palin/Edward Cullen fic... XD (which reminds me, I still ned to read that...)

[identity profile] quettalinde.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but that's not porn and it was only really for the gloriousness of bashing Palin and Smeyer at the same time…

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
True. ;)

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, someone just wrote a short fic about Blago and Sarah Palin deciding to run together for 2012... ROFL. I'd link it, but it's in a locked post...

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, so yeah, you didn't really ask for recs per se, but...

http://taepodong-wins.livejournal.com/16057.html

So so good. Stayed up til about 2am one night reading this until I couldn't stay awake any longer, then lay in bed for about half an hour wondering what was going to happen. Very tense and exciting and suspenseful and her characterization is amazing. It builds up gradually and the real plot isn't revealed until a few chapters in, but there's lots of action and drama in the first few chapters that kept me excited even though I had no idea where it was all going. But when it hits the real meat of the plot... I still get shivers thinking about it. o.o

Anyway yeah, there are tons of others though god knows I've read so many I can't keep track, but 35mph stands out as one of the best and imo most accessible series that I've read so far.
