FF ramblings

I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.

3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.

And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

Huzzah. Here we go.

Am I the only one who spent a serious chunk of time last week trying to figure out if Dean's actions in the past had any effect on the future?

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-10-10 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, me too. ^^ Mostly just trying to figure out the logistics of time travel... always complicated...

Ooooh yeah, Dean saw. Uh oh.

I have an explanation all worked out, save for one aspect. I'll write it up later.

I like the new actress for Ruby. She's less bitch.

Oh boys. :( I gasped out loud when Dean punched Sam. ^^; It's sad but interesting so see some real anger and distrust come between them, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes (worried, though... Dean's right that Sam's going down a dark path, and Sam believes that he's doing good. And maybe he's right, to a certain extent, but that doesn't make what he's doing any less dangerous.)

And hmm, I'd forgotten/hadn't realized that Dean didn't know about YED feeding Sam blood before last episode. Awkward. ;) And another instant of Sam keeping things from him...

(and randomly - did Dean call Castiel Cas? Adorable much?)

Also, that? Is gross. But not as gross than where I know this episode is going based on the summary.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-10-10 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know where this episode is going, but watching someone gorge himself on food like that--gross.

Just to what they were talking about, that the creature has to feed on human flesh. Don't know if that actually happens in the ep, but knew that that was the MotW.

Hey maybe he can join T-Bag's club.

Sometimes I wonder how the FTC greenlights this show.

Even the language has gotten grittier. And it's language; as we all know, hearing the word "shit" is exponentially more damaging to young minds than seeing blood and violence.

And of course, a bare breast will traumatize them for life and lead to them becoming sex addicts and rapists. ;)

I remember reading a review, for kicks, of Brokeback Mountain by some Christian website. The reviewer had actually catalogued every use of every swearword, and every instant of anything 'morally questionable' or whatever in the movie. No wonder they didnt' like it, if they were so busy trying to jot down every swear word. ;) Unbelievable the time people will waste. Well, I can't talk, but at least I generally waste time doing that kind of thing for things I LIKE. ^^;

There was an uncensored shot of a guy's penis in the newest season of Survivor. Surprisingly, there hasn't been an uproar. Though I read that you have to go frame-by-frame to see it.

People are way too sensitive these days. With everything--foul language; nudity; gender; religion; race; sex; and so on. We've become way too PC and it disgusts me. It's gotten to the point where people have to defensively assert themselves every time they say something that someone may find something offensive. For example, a quote from a Prison Break thread:

"sorry for spelling, Mahone and the black agent, (I'm half black, so there's no racism here) was freakin' EPIC! They even used a song that had a style that was never used at any time in any previous season. Even they knew how epic it was."

Pathetic. Acceptance of and courtesy toward differences should be values that are pounded into people's heads all their lives, and that should be enough. But as soon as we end up having to go through a mental checklist before we say and act just to be sure that we don't offend anyone, like this guy--it just crosses the line for me.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-10-10 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he did call him that. >.>

There's definitely a lot of tension between them. It'll probably get worse.

There was some foreshadowing just now too, when Dean was like "Nothing's more important than family", and Sam was just standing there glaring at him silently.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-10-10 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Lol awesome, I didn't imagine it.

Yeah. It's nice to shake things up like that a bit, though I hope (and imagine) that they'll work things out in the end. In spite of everything, they love each other too much to let much come between them... I hope...

Heh, yeah, that was rather awkward. ;)

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-10-10 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Both of them are so polarized with respect to the whole "light vs dark" thing that I can't imagine them not being pitted against each other.

I wonder what they'll leave for the 5th season. Sam v. Dean; Lilith, Azazel's master plan; Lucifer and the angels?

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-10-10 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah... though it's interesting, because it's hardly a definitive Dean=light and Sam=dark split, in spite of the angels/demons on their respective shoulders. Both are trying to do what they think is right, but neither is exactly pure as snow, eh? Both have done some morally grey questionable things for the sake of the 'greater good',, and. Course, it's hard to say what the right thing to do is a lot of the time in their lives...

*meanwhile in the current scene* Aww Sammy. :( he's trying so hard to overcome the knowledge of what's inside of him, of what he is, but he's not necessarily going about it the right way...

And eek, pyro-time... *ahem* Another example of that nice little morally grey area of SPN, eh? Maybe he had to be killed, but that doens't make it any better, really...

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-10-10 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
I do think that there is an emerging Dean=Light/Sam=Dark split.. But yeah, there's a huge gray area--the show is above keeping it that simple.

Now that I think about it, this whole episode could be foreshadowing: No matter how hard Sam tries, he'll give into his powers eventually. Just like the guy.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-10-10 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yikes, I hope not... but it could be. Or at least it was a chance to explore the possibilities of what could happen to Sam, and what he's struggling with.

Hmm, the series premiere of the American version of Life on Mars is starting in a couple of minutes on 21. Gonna check it out, though I'm hesitant about American versions of good UK shows. ^^ Course, the American version of The Office is good... and I've still yet to see the British Life on Mars, though I'd like to, because it's evidently very good.

Oh it's starting, gtg.
