FF ramblings

I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.

3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.

And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

I can't decide who to vote for. I keep thinking about it, but no party appeals to me strongly. D:<

Feeling better?

Mm, I know what you mean. ^^ I know who I'm NOT voting for, that's a given (esp after the recent cuts to arts funding, and his bullshit remark that 'most Canadians have no need for art in their lives'), but the others... yeah, dunno. Can't say I'm in love with either the NDP or the Liberals these days, and anyway there's little (no) chance of the Liberals getting in this time (usually I'd vote for them to ensure they get in rather than the Convervatives...). Thinking Green this time - sure they won't get in, but part of that's because everyone who supports them says the same thing and ergo doesn't vote for them. ^^ Anyway, the Bowen/West Van Green MP candidate was previously our Liberal MP, so I figure he's got more of a shot of getting in than most Green candidates (okay, so granted he left the Liberals admist a minor scandal, even so... he seems like a pretty decent guy - I even met him last year, he came to the opening of the credit union. Which I thought was pretty nifty, really, since it was hardly some big important political event).

Anyway, I should probably do some more research into it... I' ve been paying far more attention to the American election (in my defense, it's been going on for a lot longer...). *case in point, turns on The Daily Show on ch57* Missed this show the last 2 weeks being away. :) Aww Jon, I love you...

Least if I were American I'd have a clear choice. *grin* Sometimes I really wish we had a way of impacting their election, simply because their choice of president ultimately affects everyone, not just them. Depressing but true.

Also, fun fact? Sarah Palin kinda looks like my old boss. Quite a bit, actually. Terrifying.

And yeah, feeling a bit better, but still home from work. Can't sit up for long or stand up without feeling kinda dizzy. Hope I can go tomorrow for at least a few hours... got my first drawing class tonight, too, and doubt I'll be able to make it to the entire thing. Hoping to go for the first bit, though.

I generally find myself leaning toward the Conservative Party, but I'm not completely happy with them: I don't like Harper a whole lot, and their stance on copyright (C-61) disgusts me. The only thing I heard about them and arts is that Harper is proposing tax cuts for families with children enrolled in art-related programs. Everyone I talk to seems to hate them though, but the polls say otherwise; so either they're doing something right or everyone's just too apathetic with Canadian politics to care. (lol) I like Jack Layton a lot though (more than the others, at least), so the NDP remains one of my options. Liberals..eh; they don't seem to have their shit together. As for Green, well I'm not impressed with May--I can't buy her as a Leader at all.

I keep going over their policies and it's all pretty much the same, which doesn't help in deciding. -_- Of course there are a few differences between them, but...

It's probably going to come down to Conservative or NDP for me.

As for the US election, I'd probably vote for McCain/Palin. Radical feminists hate Palin, which wins a whole lot in my book. And as a Canadian, well, Obama wants to ream NAFTA which would be harmful to us, while McCain wants to strengthen foreign relations. From this perspective, it's really a no-brainer, in my opinion.
