FF ramblings

I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.

3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.

And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

Yeah, I know eh.. I only recently even learned about it, when I saw the trailer for it awhile back (I think when we saw I Am Legend?) I didn't realize it was Heath at the time.. learned that later. I've been wanting to see it anyway, but it'll all be that much more meaningful as his last performance. ;_; And rather depressing and disturbing, knowing how difficult he found the role and how his depression and difficulty sleeping as a result was a likely factor in his death. Yikes. Anyway, I bet he's fantastic in it, and I'm looking forward to it. It looks good anyway, and I enjoyed Batman Begins.

I'm so lazy/bored right now that I'm watching a Seinfeld clips episode. And enjoying it. *headdesk* I usually hate these things... (also looking through old skethbooks and getting a kick out of it... nice to see I've improved, anyway. And I'm amused by the fact that most of my sketchbooks have random weird shit drawn by you in them. XD XD)

I knew Heath Ledger was in it, but I just finished watching Batman Begins, for the first time, on TV. I enjoyed it enough that I've decided to see the second one. I thought it was really-well done, if a bit on the long side. I'd say it's the only Batman movie that I like, and I've pretty much seen them all, or at least the mainstream ones, anyway.

As I watched, I found myself comparing it to the first Spiderman. They both share the exact same basic premise, but they take off into two completely different directions. Eventually I concluded that it put Spiderman to shame in terms of character. Batman Begins really let you get inside the main character's mind, and I thought that was one of the highlights of the movie. Unfortunately that part is done and over with, so I don't imagine the second movie being as good.

The Seinfeld Clipshow? I like that episode, or at least the ending montage set to Greenday's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)." That was a pretty touching montage, if you ask me. Originally, they played it after the Finale. I suppose it highlighted a nice contrast between the two: The Finale focused on how anti-social and hateful the four were, while montage showed how deep the relationship between them went (even though most of it was off-camera footage..).

Yeah, I enjoyed Batman Begins, too. Darker than most superhero movies and such. Though I am still very fond of the Spiderman movies. :) I figure they're just different types; Spiderman's more for fun and excitement, especially the first one which had its fair share of humour towards the start (and I've always loved those scenes, of him first learning about his abilities. Amusing.)

I might need to see Batman Begins again, before I see The Dark Knight.. I don't remember it that well.

I actually did enjoy the clipshow... ^^ I'm just used to generally disliking clip shows because they're just, well, clips, rather than a cohesive storyline. Anime does it a lot; always drove me nuts. I know they were there to catch people up on the show, and that's good and all, but booring... but anyway, yeah, I did enjoy seeing a bunch of the funniest scenes strung together and whatnot. Amusing. Didn't know it was played after the finale. Interesting.. considering that the finale was to a large extent just a clip show with some story stringing it together, and as you said with a very different intent. I missed the end of the clipshow, though, so didn't see that montage you were mentioning.

Anime clipshows are annoying because you (usually) watch anime for a coherent story that has a beginning and an end. When you go into a new episode you expect to see some development or progression, and not a recap.

Anyway, here is the montage on Youtube (warning: It might make you cry):
