FF ramblings

I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.

3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.

And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

Yikes. Now THAT was cold.

So... is it just me, or is it kinda disturbing that they would just kill her like that? I presume she was telling the truth, or she seemed to be, in which case she's pretty innocent.. doesn't even know what's happening to her. Like the werewolf last season. Doesn't really seem right for them to be killing these people without thinking of alternatives first. I'd like them to show more of the greys, rather than vampire/demon=evil right away. They are a bit, but they could do more... guess I'm just so used to Buffy and Angel and how demons are treated in that universe.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
And really, is it just me or is this episode... ehhh... I don't know. The dialog's kinda blah. By which I mean cheesy. Is it just me? Maybe it's just Gordon being annoying.

Just got distracted - did Gordon just get turned?? Kinda expected it to happen, but.. nice twist, I guess. Sucks for him.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, they've been showing grey this season, mainly with Ruby and that demon in hte priest episode.

Your nostaligia for Buffy and Angel got triggered seeing Harmony's actress. ;p

Oho.. Gordon got a powerup.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
I guess they have, I just feel kinda iffy over how quickly they killed her. Brings up some ethical questions about vampires in this show that they haven't bothered addressing yet that I remember. Like, does being turned mean you lose your soul? Vampires on Buffy tend to be inherently different and more evil than human; can't tell if this is the case here. Especailly considering the new vampires' shock over what they've become.

*watches Gordon kill guy in car* Onnnn the other hand... o.o

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno about the dialogue. Nothing offensive has really stood out to me so far.

It's hard to say, because the show rarely deals with vampires.

For all we know they may be more malicious and instinctive than the vampires on Buffy and Angel.

As of right now, I hope Gordon doesn't turn into a vampire-hunting vampire. >.

I dunno if it's anything in particular, just a general feeling.. something about this episode just feels off to me. The dialogue between the boys is good, but Gordon's dialogue is... ehh.

Yeah, true enough... they really haven't said much about the nature of vampires. I'm curious if they are by nature evil once changed or if they're the same but with different abilities and a taste for blood. Based on this ep, I suspect the former.

oh BOYS

*flails*

Sammy... *sniff*

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Is it bad that I really, really wanted them to kiss in that scene? And kinda half expected it? LOL too much fanfic

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, you were a monster before you became a vampire, frankly...

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he was (or is) a complete psychopath.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm more like a ninja." Line of the episode.

It appears that vampires still retain their soul/humanity, but it's corrupted allowing them to kill without remorse. It might be unlike Buffy and Angel where they cannot control their urges to feed, unless Gordon proves otherwise (since he'd be the one who most likely would now).

And yay, Creepy Jesus Hunter is dead. Glad we don't have to put up with any of that now.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Lol yeah, that was funny.

Maybe, yeah. Seems like it. Though it does also seem lilke they can't control their urges to feed - look at the Harmony-girl, the other two girls, and Gordon.

Heh, yeah, that was nice.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
LOL vampires have infrared vision. sweet.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
They made a huge blunder by letting Dean hang onto the Colt when Gordon is obviously after Sam.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, true.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
holy FUCK

speaking of cold

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oh Sammy... *sigh*

And on another note - is it just me, or doesn't it look like Gordon's blood got into his mouth...? wouldn't that turn him?

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
I thought that was blood from his nose.

If it were Dean, then yes. But Sam? No, maybe not. Remember Croatoan?

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Ahh, okay. Wasn't sure.

And yeah, that's true. Intriguing.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
No shit. Sam can be frighteningly ruthless; more so than Dean.

All going according to the YED's plan?

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh yeah. Getting pretty freaky. And I like it. :) Really intrigued how much of this is just Sam and how much is demon - and still think it'd be more interesting if it's mostly just Sam, just that the demon blood is drawing it out of him.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Awwwww, Dean... teaching Sammy about the Impala so she's left in good hands... *sniff*

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2007-11-16 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that was a cute scene.

Also, that car is awesome.

Ugh, it's already 10 and I'm tired. :/
