FF ramblings

I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.

3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.

And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

Well, putty is awesome too, but I meant Puddy - Elaine's on-off boyfriend. ;p

Ahh, see I didn't know that. XD Don't remember that guy... and not watching the episode now because Mom and I are about to watch Grey's Anatomy. XD

Or... not. Tapes suck. -__- Off to download GA and watch The Office, I guess. And I still say you should be watching that show. :)

What torrent site do you use to find TV episodes? Could come in handy..

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
I rarely use torrents now, but when I do I use mininova.org or isohunt.com (searches a bunch of torrent sites).

That said, there are other ways for downloading that I much prefer now... can't talk about them in unlocked posts, however - it's all hush hush on LJ. XD I can send you an email if you're interested. You might have to make your journal a bit more active, though, just post once a month or something, in order to be accepted into these places. And that's all I'll say in an open post because I'm paranoid. *zips lips*

ooh lookie i made a rhyme

*headdesk*

need sleep, clearly

I use IRC for all of my needs, mainly. Something about having my IP displayed in the Peers List for all to see when using a torrent just doesn't settle well with me..

I think I know what you use, now. :p

I've never actually used IRC... don't really know how. Guess I should invesitigate it someday.

Lol, yeah. XD The secret of Livejournal that must not be spoken of yet everyone knows... they're damned useful, anyway, though often quite strict in who they let in. I'm generally fine, but some are invite only. :(

IRC isn't user-friendly, but it's simple, really. Some bots are really nice: 500kB/s and such.. Usually only get half that in BitTorrent; maybe only a quarter, sometimes.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Niiice. I usually get, like 10 kb/s on BT. Though usually ~50-60 on direct downloads via Megaupload, etc. But 500kb/s sounds sweet. Any advice on how to go about starting up, or should I just go google IRC and see where that takes me? :)

Mer... my normal download places are driving me nuts - can you let me know where I'd go to download TV shows on IRC? In an email, maybe, so it's not in a public place? I've used IRC a couple of times in the past, I think, so I kiiinda understand it, but no idea where to look for file sharing.

I wouldn't know. IRC channels are usually specialized in regards to the kind of content they offer, and I don't use them for TV episodes. And you know, IRC is supposed to be used for chatting. ;p Look at BT trackers and such, and look out for the names of various release groups. Google them and you should find homepages or IRC channel addresses. They may or may not have bots serving releases, though.

Given how large IRC is you can find pretty much anything, but it takes some legwork to get started. That's why IRC piracy will never die out; it's too much of a headache for most people. :p
