FF ramblings

I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.

3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.

And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

And we lost to a fucking turtle joke that made Brad laugh. It wasn't even that funny. We actually put effort into our entry.

I know, I'm still a bit bitter after 7 years. ;p (and on that note, seriously, seven years?? I'm starting to feel old... already.) But dude, we should have won, we were AWESOME.

You wouldn't believe some of the weird ass and embarassing stuff I've found in this folder. Like all my old FFA rants, which I flat down refuse to read.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I remember going through all that a few years back. I don't think...it's a good idea to read it again.

Hehe.

Like that editorial you have on RPGamer on console wars. Too bad you used your full name for that one.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
It's amusing though. ;) At least to get nostalgic over the super-old stuff, like the old Sailormoon stuff...

No, the RPGamer editorial was a rant on FFA... it's called "FF Anthology - the TRUTH!" *cries*

http://www.rpgamer.com/editor/1999/q4/112499js.html

Oh... my. I can't read it. *hides* Would it create a time vortex if I go back and kill my 13 year old self??

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
If you were to go back in time to kill your 13-year old self, you would cease to exist; this would imply that you wouldn't have been able to go back in time to kill yourself; meaning, that you would grow up to this point where you go back to kill yourself, at which poing you would cease to exist; ad infinitum.

"( note - FFV spoilers. LOTS of them.) ( note2 - I only use the original names when it comes to V characters and the names of the games. Just thought I'd mention that...)"

"For years we've waited, hoping against hope that Square would finally agree to bring their great masterpiece, Final Fantasy V over to Canada (What? I'm Canadian, so sue me!) and the U.S."

"Well, sorry that was so long... I just needed to finally get out all that out of my system. Who knows? I'll probably start some great big controversy in the Editorials, but hey, we needed some new subjects. The FMV arguements and Console Wars are wearing thin very quickly. Er, and if anyone agrees with me on this whole FFV/A thing, could you please email me? My friend and I want to start a club for V lovers and A haters. Thanks for your time. Bye!"

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I figured that. ;) But why oh why can't I anyway? ;_;

Oh my. *cringes* We wanted to start a CLUB. Love it. Or at least I did and I dragged you into it. ;p Um, sorry for mentioning you in this? XD

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's okay. You didn't mention me by name or give out contact information. ;p

What's sad is that I still see adults type that way (no offense). I mean just.. wow. I really have no words when it comes to some people, sometimes..

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, yeah. "And this is my friend, ___ ___ at ___ ___ Road, North _____. And here is his telephone number: ______. Please call if you're interested in our club, omg!"

*runs away*

And that scares me too... what scares me even more is that I look at stuff I didn't even write that long ago and I swear it makes me cringe, too. Mostly I just hate reading what I wrote. I hope that's just me. :(

I notice that a lot of children and young teens are unable to separate subjectivity and objectivity in their arguements. These are basic critical thinking/composition skills. And that's fine; I mean, after all, they're children. It just disturbs me greatly when I see adults who are sorely lacking in this area. Gives me horrid flashbacks of having to proofread essays for other people near the end of highschool and in college English classes.

I swear, out of all the academic professions out there, the ones teaching English classes must *head desk* the most.
