FF ramblings
I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.
3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.
And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

Heh, it can be a lot. :) Lesse, right now I'm up to 12, I think, though it varies a bit each week., Christ. And that's only stuff I watch weekly, not counting Scrubs which I'm watching every day at work during lunch (almost done s3! addicting as heck show). Oh, that doesn't count FNL, either. God help me. Plus of course I've gots a number of other shows that I'm still into (Farscape, Oz, Doctor Who/Torchwood...) but that aren't on TV anymore/at the moment and that I don't really watch anymore but I still like.
I have no life. *cries*
But, new SPN tonight! *cheers*

*shrug* Everyone has to have a hobby, and I don't see anything wrong with doing what you enjoy, regardless of how productive it may or may not be.
<-- Watches too many B-movies. Must. Study. D:

Lol, see, this is why I like you, you enable my sick habits. XD XD (kidding) But I dunno, I generally don't feel particularly guilty about it so long as I'm also doing something semi-productive like, I dunno, working. Heh. And I tell myself that I'm studying it and "being an active audience". Thank you Popular Culture classes.
Hee. Well, watch the B movies then analyze themn for what they say about movie-making or our society or when they were made or... something. That's how I rationalize it to myself. *nod* And I did study some B movies in my various classes... we did 1950s sci-fi in Hollywood Cinema a few years back, and face it, those are pretty much exclusively B movies (though maybe just by today's standards, I guess). Heh. I wrote an essay on an exam comparing westerns to sci-fi in the 1950s.. good times...

You work. What else is there to do in life? You go to work, come home and veg out, and go to work the next morning. Welcome to the next 50 years. :p
I'm more of a fan of 1970-early 1990 horror movies (though there are some great ones from the '60's). Sci-fi is somewhat interesting too, because the two genres sometimes have a certain degree of overlap.

Lol, that's cheerful. Sometimes I think like that, but other times I think that I want more - I want to make some kind of difference and do something useful in life so I don't feel like I'm wasting it. At the least, I want to do some work that I both enjoy and feel is somehow important. My mom always tells me that the most important thing is making a contribution, or something to that effect, and much as I roll my eyes she's right... and on that note, however, I do think that TV and media can be an important force for good (and bad...) in our society, and I'd like to try to harness my interest in it to help out somehow. That's why I like all the charity efforts of fans so much, like the Serenity Equality Now screenings. I love that we were making a real difference (over $170 thousand raised in two weekends? Awesome!) by just doing something we love. It's a nice way to give back, and to prove that our interest can be helpful.

I'm going to find a cure for AIDS. Then a group of religious zealots will gun me down in a drive-by for tampering with what they believe to be God's anti-gay curse.
1000 posts? No problem. :p
