FF ramblings

I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.

3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.

And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

Wanna go see Ironman on Sunday? It's getting excellent reviews, and it just came out tonight... I also want to see Harold & Kumar 2, which... isnt' getting such good reviews. ^^ But I liked the first, and Chris Meloni's in it (small role, I suspect, but at least this time he won't be covered in gross make-up from what I hear ^^;). Anyway, I'm hoping to see both; might wait for the latter til DVD. Cuz Narnia and Indiana Jones are also coming up this month. And I'm vaguely intrigued to know if Speed Racer will be any good.

Anyway, Ironman's on at Metrotown, P&T, and Paramount/Scotiabank Theatre on Burrard. I'm inclined to prefer the two nicer ones, just cuz it'll look better on them and be more pleasant. Maybe I'll see if I can rope Jane into it, too... haven't talked to her in ages. I imagine she'll want to see Narnia, too.

Probably not tomorrow. I just spent the day reformatting my Dad's computer (still not done) and disassembling my Dreamcast. It's gonna take me hours to finish. So I'll probably just want to stay home and relax tomorrow.

Maybe Monday, if that works.

Mmkay. Maybe a matinee on Monday? Less busy probably, too. I have 2 appointments in the morning/around noon, but maybe a ~3 showing. Maybe at Metro; I need to buy a present for Jane... Talked to her yesterday, and fuck me I forgot it's her birthday in a week. o.o No idea what to get her. Anyway, either that or the theatre at Burrard; whichever. Burrard's easier to get to.

Let me guess.. Massage and dentist? :o

Maybe Monday. I prefer Metrotown.

1/2 right. First is my psychiatrist (makes me sound crazier than I am, lol... actually not sure what he is, but he's the doctor I see for my Tourettes), then dentist cuz my teeth have been bothering me where they did some fillings over a month ago. Maybe nothing, but sometimes it'll hurt quite badly when I eat, and it was 5-6 weeks ago...

Okay, cool. Metrotown sounds good; more exciting anyway. :)

And... disassembling your Dreamcast? ^^ What're you doing with it? You mean to clean it?

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-05-04 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I removed the cover and took it apart. I scrubbed the fuck out of it with soap and hydrogen peroxide.

It had yellow goo all over the parts inside. It's what smells. And it still smells.

Ewwww. o.o Yellow goo?? And it still smells, eh? Sucks.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-05-04 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I think the cleaning helped a little, and the top doesn't feel as grimy. I'm gonna have to think of how to clean the bottom, since all the PCBs are attached to it.

I think the guy was a smoker or something. Or maybe it's lube. I dunno.

The controller's clean at least, so it's not like the smell gets in the way or anything.

Also, as far as the Dreamcast is concerned, it seems to be working fine (or it was, before I cleaned it - I haven't checked it yet). So you can order a VGA box for me as a gift, and/or in exchange for Skies of Arcadia.

Although according to Ikaruga's in-game timer, I've only put about 4 hours into it, so maybe I should give it a little more...?

Haha, we'll see. ^^; I'm not sure that I want to spend the money right now, and your birthday's not til January. *grin* Unless it's a very very early birthday present... I don't care much bout SoA right now; I've got other stuff to play... maybe someday.

A very very early birthday present would be cool; let's continue breaking social norms. The game looks pretty good in yoko mode without the VGA box, so it's not urgent.

Ah well, at least the SoA option is open now, as opposed to not being there at all in the first place. ;p
