To a certain extent it does result in me recording a bunch of stuff I haven't watched yet (I've had the BSG miniseries on there for ages... and all of this season's Smallville and My Name is Earl for whenever I get around to finishing last season of each), but mostly it's just SO much more convenient for my weekly shows. I used to have to tape a lot to keep up (esp Mondays and Thursdays - 4-5 shows both nights, and even WITH TiVo I have to download Grey's Anatomy because it conflicts with both The Office/30 Rock on NBC and SPN on CW. Sigh.). I ended up getting behind quite regularly for the lower priority shows, and having to download stuff because I wouldn't have a blank tape available and... yeah. Pain in the butt. Plus, this way I can record The Daily Show/The Colbert Report every night without lifting a finger, then watch them the next morning. Believe me, TiVo has made a huge difference in my TV watching - it's so freaking awesome, and makes things so much more convenient... plus, I usually have at least a couple of eps of Seinfeld or Friends sitting in my 'suggestions' section for when there's nothing on... I've even got my mom hooked - she wants one now, and I'm thinking of getting them one for Christmas.. mind you, they won't get much else. ^^ Might hit up grandparents to chip in, or to buy them a 1-year subscription or something. If you happen to see TiVo's on sale for less than the normal $199, let me know... :)
