FF ramblings

I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.

3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.

And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

Ah, there we go. Finally showed up on my transaction record.

Hi <3

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Hey. :) Didn't get to pick up that package today, sorry. The slip said it would be available after 1:30 today and the post office closes at 12:30, and honest to god I am too scared of the batshit insane woman that works at the post office to go up there and ask. Because I can just see her giving me this LOOK and pushing the slip back to me while shaking her head in her little condescending manner. Seriously, she's scary.

Aaanyway. Will pick it up Monday. ^^; It probably isn't your thing anyway, unfortunately... I'd be surprised, anyway, since I think the tracking information would have showed it having arrived.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
So it says it's available after 1:30, but the post office closes at 12:30? Where's the logic there?

So it still says it's in Winnipeg? That's...crap. But I suppose there's nothing that can be done now. I just hope it arrives okay. I'm sure that the weather over there isn't helping. Oh well, I don't think my game will be shipped until Monday, anyway.

Hehe.. I'm amused that before hockey games at GM Place, they sing the US national anthem before the Canadian one. One would think it would be the other way around, given that, you know, GM Place is in Canada. -_-

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea. o.o Stupid post office... I suppose I could've gone and seen if crazy lady was there, but I only had a 1/2 hour lunch so decided not to bother.

I'm not sure where it is - just tried to track it and it didn't work. Huh. Will try again later... probably isn't doing much over the weekend.

Heh, that sucks...

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
What's the tracking number, anyway?

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
4565576016642034

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, thanks. Now I don't have to bug you by asking where it is. :p

Yeah, this happened to me before. Their tracking service goes down from time to time.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. Too bad.. Oh wells, as I said, I doubt there's much happening over the weekend.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
I don't blame you for not wanting to go to the post office; after all, the term "go postal" does have some truth to it. >.>

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, you should see this woman. She acts real nice and calm on the outside, but on the inside she's pure evil. My co-worker's friend was playing golf one day and he hit a ball into where she was playing, and she ran at him screaming and waving around her golf club. Crazy. He's also told me certain rumours about her and my ex-employers at Doc Morgan's (they basically went out of business and left the island, but they also got divorced along the way and allegedly she was the reason. I dunno, that's what he heard from his hockey pool and/or at the pub, anyway. o.o I don't know why anyone would have an affair with her. Scary.).

Island gossip is fun. XD I get a lot of it from him, too, through the "guys at the pub". LOL. Like about the car that was recently discovered one morning not far from us, completely burned and destroyed. Evidently some guy got pissed off and/or drunk and/or high one night and set his car on fire. Amusing.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, so Doc Morgan's is pretty much gone now?

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, the old owners took it back and are reopening it in a few monthes. Though god knows how they're going to get people to work for them - no one liked them when they ran the place (no one liked the other ones either, granted) so it'll be hard to get the old employees back. Hopefully they'll sell it again, and this time to people who know what they're doing. It was pretty funny this summer, though, watching as it crashed and burned. Don't know if I ever mentioned it on here, but evidently the 2 cooks got fed up one day and walked out during the dinner rush and never came back. Hilarious.

Oh yeah, and re: crazy postal lady, I forgot the other funny thing - sometimes she returns mail if she doesn't like you. Crazy, man.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
I like how you called her "pure evil." Jerry once called Newman "pure evil" as well. Seinfeld is getting to you; you're slipping in references without even knowing it. :o

Oh yeah, and re: crazy postal lady, I forgot the other funny thing - sometimes she returns mail if she doesn't like you. Crazy, man.

I'm sure this is illegal. But it brings up the worrisome question: Does she like you?

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, yeah, I think I did do that subconsciously. ^^;

Yup, pretty sure it is. Okay, I'm not 100% sure that she actually does that, I've just heard it... she finds reasons, I think, like if you don't write your address in exactly the right way (she's very picky about that).

I don't think she was impressed by me a few monthes back, when I kept going in every day to see if my package had arrived (we're supposed to bring in the slip, but it wouldn't arrive at my box until I'd left for work, so I just went to check at the post office during my lunch). She got really shirty with me after a week of doing it (even though it takes her, like, 1 minute). But I've been as polite as is humanly possible to her since (I got kind of mad at her that day...) and she doesn't seem to actively dislike me. I hope. o.o She wasn't impressed again awhile ago, though, when I went it to send something for work and my manager wanted it insured, and I didn't know how much it was worth (I'd forgotten that you need to know that to get it insured, so fucking sue me). She gave me this LOOK, shook her head, and slid the package back to me. Creepy looking, seriously.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
I think she should get a different job. She seems bored with hers, and shouldn't be working with people.

Now I'm worried that she sent back my package. :p

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, I doubt it. Hope not, anyway. o.o

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Good news - your present's arrived. :) Tracking system seems to be a bit slow in updating - now it says that it arrived on Feb. 8th. Huh. Anyway, I'll pick it up tomorrow morning. Guess I could have picked it up yesterday, but I couldn't bring myself to risk the wrath of Adele. *shudder* Don't know when I'll be home in N Van tomorrow; possibly early in the day, but it might be later. But I can pop over tomorrow evening or whenever works.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I checked it this morning and was surprised to see it arrived. One worry down - two to go!

Adele sounds like a witch's name. Really. :\

Yeah, whenever works. Tomorrow is a short day for me, so give me a call when you're available. Are you free tomorrow evening..or?

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, it does kinda, doesn't it?

Yup, should def be home and free tomorrow evening. Will, free other than PB, of course. ;) Though if you wanted to, we could watch it together again. Now that I know I can connect to wireless at your place, lol.. but anyway, I'll call you when I get home.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I was going to suggest seeing a movie, since I forgot about Prison Break. But yeah, we could watch it.

God knows that I'm not going to be doing any work tomorrow, after the midterm.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, hadn't thought about a movie... I still want to see Sweeny Todd, before it's gone. I dunno.

Good luck with the midterm... I have on Thurs. And what am I doing right now? Playing FFXII, of course. ;) In Barheim trying to get 3 Deathbringers (got 2 so far) then fighting Zalera.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Woo hoo, got #3! :)

Heh, I just thought that I should bring over some Monty Python and make you watch it after PB. XD As part of our deal. Then another time we can watch Terminator, or at least I'll promise to watch it. ;) Come on, both are equally important parts of our popular culture...

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, I prefer Prison Break. I spent too much money this month already. :\

You can get the best shield in the game (technically, second best) in the West Annex of Barheim Passage - Zodiac Escutcheon. The chest is one-time only, and the shield itself is rare. The chest only spawns 30% of the time, and only 6% of the time the item it contains is the shield (1.8% overall chance). Main character needs the Diamond Armlet equipped to have a chance. The chest sits underneath another chest that's there 90% of the time. Fun stuff.

Another Zodiac Escutcheon can be obtained from a chest in the Great Crystal. It has a 50% chance of being the Brave Suit and a 50% chance of being the shield (or 100% with the Diamond Armlet). The Brave Suit can be obtained as much as you like from the Henne Mines, while the shield comes from these two places only.

I spent a lot of time figuring all of this out a few summers ago. :|

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. Sounds like too much work for me. o.o I'd consider it if that area wasn't swarming with skeletons that spawn every 5-10 seconds. Pain in the ass. Easy to kill, but annoying. Good to know, though, anyway...
