FF ramblings

I happened to check Rpgamer.com a few minutes ago and noticed that FFIII:DS comes out today (I haven't really been keeping track...). I'm probably just being too over-emotional, but this day feels rather historic in the RPG world - the last Final Fantasy that wasn't released in the US is finally here. I checked, and it's been approximately 16.5 years since FFIII was released in Japan - well, better late than never, I guess. XD I mean sure, I played it years ago on a translated ROM and I won't be buying this version anytime soon (lack of a DS... and lack of time to play. woe.), but it's still cool to think that it's here. It's sort of a pity that the original version of the game will never make it here, most likely (how hard would it have been to include the orignal version in the new game, really...?), but the new version looks pretty spiffy. Hopefully I'll get to play it someday.

3 FF games in the past 2 weeks, 2 of which are new to the US (FFXII and FFIII:DS) and one of which only ever made it here in a mangled fashion (FFV Advance) - makes me miss the days when I could play all the time... I haven't really been into gaming as much the last few years, largely because of a. lack of time during school, b. other interests take up my free time, and c. i'm lazy., but I still get excited hearing about games and still want to play when I get the chance. I'm way behind on all the games I'm playing, but I still plan to ask for either FFXII or Disgaea 2 for Christmas (leaning towards the latter - FFXII will be easy enough to find for years to come, and it'll get cheap fairly quickly, whereas Disgaea 2 will start disappearing soon...). I am sorely tempted by FFXII, though - it's been getting fantastic reviews, and hell, it's FFXII! We've been waiting for this game for years, and it's finally here... and I really can't justify the time or money to get it. Part of me, too, is still a bit uncertain about it - but most of the reviews have said that the game is nothing like (and much better than) anything we've seen of it to this point, including the demo. I plan to give it a chance eventually, but can't do it yet.

And... I'm procrastinating. Back to my Farscape paper... it's due tomorrow at 9, so I need to get moving. Up to 5 pages, need about 12 - and I'm still blathering on about the context, haven't even gotten to analysing the series itself! Ehehehe. baaack to work.

Frankly I think one of those shoes should have connected. Bastard deserves it. The economic issues that pretty much every country in the world is facing is probably partly his fault.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, that would've been hilarious.. but clearly he has good reflexes from being used to people throwing shit at him. XD

http://community.livejournal.com/olberfanns/15853.html
Keith and some other host discuss the incident while said other host has shoes thrown at him. LOL. Then someone throws a shoe at Keith. Heh. The press is totally enjoying this whole thing...

It was good... too short, though, cuz the place was WAY too fucking loud and after an hour I needed to get out of there before my head exploded... not a place conducive to good conversation. We drove around for a bit hoping to find a coffee shop or someplace else quiet to chat for a bit, but everything was closed... so I ended up taking the 10:00 back. ^^ Oh well... got Arrested Development s2 from Jane and the Heroes graphic novel + 1 year of paid LJ time (fucking sweet) from [livejournal.com profile] quettalinde. Need to go find or make a layout now... and lots of shiny icons...

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I was surprised he could dodge that quickly. He hasn't shown to have good coordination and balance in the past. (Oh you, Japan..)

The journalist who threw the shoes is being called a hero. I'm inclined to agree.. Haha..

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. Not Brock Hall anymore. Apparently they moved all the student finance/awards crap to 2205 Lower Mall Building 6 (and had the audacity to call it a "convenient new location" on the sign in Brock).

So I went there and it didn't really look like any place set up to service students.. Just cubicles everywhere. Closed, too. :|

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
What the hell? That's... dumb. -_- In what universe is Lower Mall more convenient than Brock Hall?? What's in Brock Hall now, then...?

Anyway, want to go see QoS tomorrow? Mom and I are planning to go into town to do some last minute Christmas shopping before the upcoming big snowfalls on Sunday and Tuesday.

How'd the paper go, btw? I assume you got it done and handed in okay?

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Lol that's a pretty awesome video...

And check this out - http://bushbash.flashgressive.de/
Gotta love the Internet.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing right now. The front desks will all boarded up and plastered with signs saying to go to the one in Lower Mall.

I don't know about tomorrow. I made plans for Saturday with the intention of seeing QoS on Sunday. Only today I find out that there's supposed to be a huge snowstorm on Sunday. Maybe at one of the locals in the evening?

Yeah, finished and handed it in.

We should also go see The Spirit. It looks a lot like Sin City in style. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button also seems good, but I dunno if you'd interested in that.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Def want to see the latter, and possibly the former (don't know much about it, beyond it being based on a Frank Miller graphic novel...).

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just going in for the day, so that won't work... don't want to be caught in town on Sunday in case of snow. Guess we'll have to wait? ^^;

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-12-20 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
Oh cool, so we can see the latter then sometime too.

Here's a trailer for The Spirit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyusyG5XOac You've probably already seen one, but that one's set to a Christmas carol. Looks pretty fun.

Oh. Frank Miller did Sin City too. Guess the two movies will be compared to hell and back now..

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-12-21 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I can't really find anything about this change on the UBC website. You'd think something like this would be worth mentioning. Or maybe I just suck at navigating that place..

I have no idea now...

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
4-unbuttoned shirt Lincoln.

Enjoy.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Sweet. XD Should be watching it now, but... -_- It's TiVo-ing, I'll get to it eventually. ^^

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Crazy.. wtf, UBC? And that's a stupid place to move it too, as well. *sigh* Brock Hall was so central!

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Nifty trailer - can't recall if I've seen it or not, though I've seen a few go by on TV.

Yeah, I know he did. And 300. And a bunch of other (good) shit, including some of the most highly-esteemed Batman graphic novels (though I must confess, I've been trying to read The Dark Knight Returns, and just.. can't seem to get into it. I know it's a classic, but.. guess I should try again. I think I'm just not accustomed to the art style, though the writing is good. Loved his Batman Origins or whatever it was called graphic novel, though. Not least because it had a ton of Gordon..)

(which reminds me - I started watching The Dark Knight with my parents the other day, and honest to god I swear my mother is being purposely dim.. *eyeroll* She says she's enjoying it, but that she doesn't really know what's going on and she keeps asking me to explain story points to her. -_- I told her she should have just gone and seen it in a theatre - it's much easier to fully enjoy and understand when watched straight through in one sitting while being totally absorbed in it, rather than watching the first 40 minutes late at night while falling asleep. -___- I've left it with them to finish; couldn't take it anymore. I'll finish rewatching it later. Still damned good, btw - easy to get pulled right into, esp after having dabbled in the fandom the last 5-6 monthes.).

Mid-season finale.. The remainder of the season is going to be really fucked up. Like, really fucked.

After you see the episode, you should watch the Spring trailer if TiVo didn't capture it (I think Global omits them?): http://spoilertv-prisonbreak.blogspot.com/2008/12/spring-episodes-trailer.html

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know... now we've gotta wait monthes. ^^ Anyway, finally got off my ass and have started watching it (just a few minutes in). Will let you know when I'm done... thanks for the trailer link,

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
Just finished. Huh. It was... decent, but kinda anti-climatic for a fall finale. The revelation about their mother was interesting, but the impact of the final scene was kinda mitigated by the fact that they'd built up to it all episode. And the description on my TiVo said that someone would die... though of course I'm relieved no one did. Anyway, it was pretty exciting, I guess - just sorta felt like nothing really happened or changed by the end of the episode except for the one revelation, and Michael escaping. Hm. And wow, only 6 eps left, eh? Hard to believe... probably will be the last 6 eps ever, too. :(

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, let me know what you think. A while ago I was reflecting on the show as a whole; it felt kind of weird realizing how large its scope has become and how far along it has come--where it is now compared to season 1. It's quite a different show altogether.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
Just replied above. And yeah, it really has come a long ways from what it was. Though I did like the references back to s1 in this ep with Michael remembering his old tattoos and rigging a trap to get out. :)

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I get what you mean. There was no huge shock or cliffhanger. I suppose the mother's appearance was supposed to be it, but it didn't quite work out.

I kind of hope Gretchen comes back. I've grown to like her character and find it entertaining when she's on screen.

I really really wanted Lincoln to blow Self away at the end there, though.

[identity profile] bk635.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
He got really lucky with that trap.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2008-12-23 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it didn't really... I mean, the "your mother is alive" line was in the trailer, and then the actual scene occurred before the opening credits... so by the time the revelation came, we were pretty much expecting it. And it really feels like nothing much happened - they're at pretty much the same place at the end of the episode as at the start.

Gretchen's grown on me this season, yeah... though I don't think I'd miss her, honestly.

That would have been awesome. ^^
