Okay, at last the promised fanworks post... some dolls I never posted, and a few drawings from various challenges that I haven't posted here. I have a number of drawings that I have been meaning to finish for ages... eventually will get around to finishing and posting them.

Watching Buffy again with my cousin. Am having much progress getting her hooked. :) Watched Angel and Prophecy Girl (skipping the rest of s1; she'd already seen the pilot), then skipped to School Hard in s2, then Halloween. Now watching Lie to Me, and I figure it's clear sailing from here. :) Might suggest she skip Bad Eggs though, cuz ugh it's an awful ep. I generally prefer to have people watch all eps of something in order, but I wanted to get her into it quickly and, let's face it, s1 isn't the greatest. But yay s2, now it gets good. Oh Spike. <3 And oh Halloween, I enjoy that ep... Oz! Ethan! RIPPER! Mm, that was the first ep I really sat up and took notice of Giles and went "holy fuck you are hot and awesome", lol. The Dark Age is next up if she feels like watching another ep, and mmmm Giles... I enjoy that episode. ;)

*miniflail* Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof with their newborn daughter Satyana Awwwwwwwwwwww... I don't normally get excited over celebrity marriages/births/etc, but when it comes to my favourite TV stars... and I've always loved them. :) So happy for them!

UM. HOLY SHIT. Evidently Andy Coop is in a recent issue of Buffy s8. OMFG. *dies* I need to get caught up, stat... I own up to I think issue 19 and have read up to 15 or 16. Not sure what the latest issue is; think it's 22 or 23. GAH. *runs around it circles* I'm such a dork. XD XD But seriously, what are the chances of those two fandoms crossing over in canon? ^^ (well, so to speak, one being RPF and all...) Oh the possibilities...

*scrounges for scans* The post I got it from is in a locked comm and it's pretty blurry... lesse if I can find a hi-rez version of it. And next time I'm in town I think I'll bite the bullet and buy the last few issues. I'm way behind on Angel, too.. I dunno, I keep thinking I should just forget about it and buy the TPBs when they come out, but then I end up picking up some more of the individual issues. But TPBs would be a lot easier to store... gah. Mostly I just don't know what I'd DO with all the individual issues I've bought, because they add up in price... if I decided to go the TPB route, would anyone be interested in buying the ones I have? They're all in good to perfect condition; quite a few of them have never been out of the plastic cover I got them in...

Okay, found it... it's at the end of issue 21. Written by the ever-awesome Jane Espenson. :)

Non-spoiler version w/ spoilery bits whited out, cut to just the panels with Anderson (yeah, I ended up spoiling myself... pretty big spoiler, too. But whatever, I don't care that much anymore, and it makes me more intrigued to read the recent issues. And I think I'd actually heard this spoiler already, anyway. That's Harmony he's interviewing, btw.)

Today is the ten-year anniversay of the premiere of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Amazing, eh? I came into it late (start of season 7), but it's still remarkable to think that it's been ten years since it started. And in 2 and half years it'll be 10 years since Angel started... wow.

I vaguely feel like I should do a post about Orlando, but I'm too lazy... it was fun, anyway. 3 days in warmth (well, two days anyway - first two days it was 28 degrees and fantastic, third day it was 12 degrees and icky) and it was fun blitzing through the 4 parks again. Hadn't been to Animal Kingdom before, so enjoyed that. And bought a stuffed giraffe at the Rainforest Cafe there. ;) We were just there a few years ago, though, so for the other parks we just went through quickly and did the new stuff and anything we wanted to do again.

So now that that's over, I'm getting stressed as heck over final papers. Ugh. First one (on queer representations on TV, mainly concentrating on Queer as Folk with some Will & Grace thrown in) is due in a bit over two weeks, then 2 due the following week (one on representation of prisons in the media, based on analysis of 3 media texts from different mediums (needless to say, using Oz for one), and the other is actually a set of questions which we have to answer in relation to a certain fandom/fan activity... might use Lost fandom, but can't decide). Then English one (post-colonial racial and gender identities in two of the works we read) due the week after. Then just exams (2 real ones, 2 take-homes), and I'm DONE. Yay!

And speaking of, I've booked my flight home since exam schedule is up: I'm coming back April 17th. Woo hoo! Really looking forward to seeing everyone again and hanging out, though not looking forward to finding a job. But it'll be nice to be home...

I've got another presentation on slash next week (this time because it was actually one of the topics we had to choose from, so I obviously volunteered for it). It'll be... interesting. We had our first proper week on fandom this week, and I was the main person participating for a lot of the seminar. After awhile, the presenters would just look straight at me whenever they asked a question. XD Cause really, no one else had any idea about fandom never mind upwards of 10 years of experience. They probably think I'm completely insane, but oh well. I was perfectly candid about what fandom is and what it means to us in it, and if they think it's weird then that's their loss. Though really, after a class, several articles, and a seminar on the topic, you'd think people would stop referring to things like dressing up and conventions as "extreme examples of fandom". Dude, where I'm from that is not extreme. I've been to conventions, hell I've dressed up, and the people there are perfectly normal (in their own way, at least XD) and generally awesome. The drama and intolerance online seems to dissipate a bit offline and people are generally pretty great from what I've seen (especially Browncoats... they rock). Anyway, I think that trying to explain fandom, even academically, is a lost cause a lot of the time. ^^ Even when it's equated to more socially acceptable venues of fannishness (painting your face and cheering at hockey games, for example), people still seem to think that, say, Star Trek fans are just inherently weirder (and more 'extreme') than sports or music fans.

Oh yeah, and I watched eps 2.02 and 2.03 of SPN, though rest will prob have to wait until at least essays are done. Generally enjoyed both, loved Dean's mini-breakdown at the end of ep2. Still trying to figure out if ep2 was shot at Playland (and if it was, that's a hell of an editing job), but suspect that it wasn't - I recognized a couple of rides, but the overall configuration based on wide shots is nothing like Playland. Yeah, I spend a lot of time thinking about this stuff in Vancouver-shot shows. XD It was nice to see Amber Benson in ep3, and amused that she was in an episode about vampires and actually played one. Haha. Also, that hunter's storyline was lifted straight from Gunn's in AtS... (sister was turned by vamps and he had to kill her, then went on vampire-killing crusade as result). Seriously. -_-

Anyway, all my TV except for Lost and TBD are on hiatus right now, though some of it's coming back next week. All things considered, I don't really have time for it, anyway... Am really enjoying TBD so far, anyway. Looking forward to next ep.

Also, I went out dancing for the first time this year the other night (discounting Don's Ball). Heh. It was fun for awhile, then I got kinda bored and had a headache from the music. XD Danced with some guy who had his hands all freaking over me, and tried to put [livejournal.com profile] shoebox_of_lies's dancing advice ("rub your ass against his crotch") into practice. XD Anyway though, I don't think it's really for me... fun occasionally, but I don't enjoy dancing or super-loud music all that much. Plus I don't drink, which makes it less fun. ^^ Still enjoyed myself overall, though.

I should really be studying right now... *cough*

I've see this meme floating around for awhile, and have been meaning to do it...

I) I'll post ten things I'm a fan of.

II) You will attempt to guess my favourite character from each.

III)
Upon your success, I'll put that line in bold, append the correct
answer, and write a sentence or so about my affection for that
character. (well, may or may not do the sentence...)

1. Angel Wesley, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] garran. And this comes as a surprise to who? XD I don't even know where to start in explaining why I love him so much; I suppose it comes down in part to my fascination with seeing how he changed and developed over the years, compounded by Alexis's brilliant acting. I loved him when he was bumbling around and falling over things in season 1, and when he was dark and broody and scruffy in season 4, and I love that his character development between those 2 points (and beyond) was completely organic.

2. Lost Sawyer, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] garran. Sex appeal aside (*ahem*), I find him a fascinating and multi-faceted character, and I'm looking forward to see where they go with his character development, especially in terms of his relationship with Jack (and Kate, I suppose). And he's one of those characters who can make you go from laughing to angsting in a moment...

3. Harry Potter Severus Snape, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] bk635. I find him one of the most intriquing, 3-dimensional characters in the books, possibly even the most. I love the ambiguous morality about him, and the idea that he can be a nasty son-of-a-bitch but still be on the side of good. And I remain optimistic even after HBP. :)

4. Firefly Mal, half guessed by [livejournal.com profile] garran, because his guess made me realize that I really have 2 favourites... so, there's still one more to guess. :)

5. Buffy (not sure that I really have a favourite, actually, but I'll choose the closest answer. ^^) Spike, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] garran. He's the closest I have to a favourite, anyway. As least until s6/7.

6. Lord of the Rings (it's actually a tie for this one, so either answer will count) One of them's Faramir (book!Faramir, that is), guessed by [livejournal.com profile] bk635 after a not-so-subtle clue. ;) Copy-pasting my explanation about why I liked him from my comment below: I'm not sure how to explain what I liked about him... in part it's because I admire his strength of character in not being tempted by the ring, which is why the changes to his character in the movies (TTT, anyway) irritated me. I liked the contrast between him and his brother; both how Boromir was tempted by the ring while Faramir wasn't, and the contrasts in their personalities (Boromir as the strong, proud, ambitious warrior, and Faramir as the quieter, gentler, and more peaceful man who was constantly being overshadowed by his brother). Also his relationship with Eowyn. Although admittedly it's been quite awhile since I've read the books, so I'm a bit iffy on that assessment...

7. Naruto Gaara, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] bronzejarith.

8. House House, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] bk635. Yeah, pretty typical answer, but he really does steal the show... and kudos to BK for also guessing my second favourite, Wilson. ^_^

9. Smallville Lex, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] garran. What can I say, I like morally ambiguous characters...

10. Full Metal Alchemist Roy, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] bk635.

Babylon 5 is notably missing from the list because there is no way that I can choose between them... I love pretty much everyone on it equally. ^_^
